Hello, I was wondering if something could be clarified for me.
I am here on an employment authorization card and my F-1 is expired. I want to go home to Austria for the holidays, but do not have enough time to get the F-1 renewed. I was planning on applying for an advanced parole document. Do you believe this is the correct step? Thanks so much in advance for any advice.

The government already says that if your F1 visa has expired you may stay in the US provided you are still a student. But it would seem that if you leave the US you will need to apply for a new visa.
It also says that you cannot renew an F1 visa while still in the US.
