What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Irrelevant

Hubby is retiring! His official last day of active duty is Sept 30, but he's done working as of last Friday. With 7 kids, he's gonna need to find a second career sooner, rather than later. He's applied to be admitted to the WA Bar Assoc. (currently admitted to the Oregon Bar), and has been applying for jobs, but it turns out being a JAG officer is translating to a whole lot of "not that kind of doctor".

So please, cross your fingers that one of the Federal Magistrate or Administrative Law Judge positions pans out. He really doesn't need to attempt being a corporate attorney or a tribal law specialist, and apparently that's what all the attorneys in WA do.

Good luck. Surely with the military bases around that area, there is a demand for civilian attorney with that much experience with JAG.

Making through a military career as a family is no easy task. Congrats to both of you.

You might check around with the organizations that hire for military contracts such as Northrup Grummond. They frequently hire retired military as they understand what is needed in a military/government environment. Also, check out USAJobs.com. That is where government agencies post available jobs and with his military experience, he has a good chance at such a job. Most govt. jobs use a point system and he has points as a retired military person.

I can't take a lot of credit for that. We started dating about 6 months before he made LTC, and only got married 2 years ago. I didn't have to deal with any deployments, or even more than 1 military move. I'm pretty lucky in that regard.

LOL You had battles enough to fight, though!
