Not sure if this is the correct forum but long story short my power steering went in my 2008 vehicle a little over a week ago. I called a local shop who agreed to look at it and told me my rack and pinion was bad. He wanted $850 for it. He did the work and I paid him. The day I was going to pick up the car he said that he noticed another problem related to the steering and told me it would cost another $100. I balked but said it was OK to replace it. I finally got the car and that very night all the power steering fluid completely drained from a hose somewhere and my wheel would turn so I couldn't drive. I called him that night and he said he would have a tow truck there the next day. He looked at it again and said the hose clamp was loose. He fixed it no charge and sent me on my way. Meanwhile in between the time I dropped the car off for the first time and the day the fluid came out was almost a week as he kept telling me it would be done the next day and then the next day. He offered me rentals which I had to get to work so I spent almost $100 for 3 days usage and I had to take 3 days off of work when I couldn't afford another rental. So the very next day I drive 28 miles to work with no problems. I go out on lunch and the same problem...fluid drained and wheel wont turn. That was last Friday. He's had the car for the last 4 days and says that I now need a $175 hose. I've already paid him the $850 but now owe him an additional $300 and change. I am literally filled with anxiety every time he calls. I am again using one of his rentals today. Do I have any legal recourse here? Im not holding back payment because I have already given him the rest of the money I owe him on a post dated check. If he says that there is another issue, what options do I have? I need to get to work and have no other options. I had a similar issue with him over the previous summer with an overheating issue but in the end it worked out but not without plenty of issues in between. I should have known better. Any advice?

Take the car to a real mechanic to find out what the real problem is. You need to know what's actually happening before you can figure out what the best course of action is. Since it doesn't seem like you trust this guy you really need to take your car somewhere else. Otherwise this may never end.

This post has nothing to do with auto accidents/claims and would have been better off under the consumer stuff.
