Have another question..(my life is complicated :) )

In addition to the problem with the child support we are paying I have a question regarding the child support we are supposed to be receiving. The mother got very behind in her payments because she was simply too lazy to get a job. We begged the courts to do something, even providing them information about her job for the short time she was employed. They continued to do nothing..until...she was $25,000 behind in support. She was put in jail and then they proceeded to tell her that they were going to charge her with 5 felony counts and she could go to jail for up to 10 years. However, if this happened to her, we would still get no money and we didn't want our kids to have to deal with that. Also, she and her current boyfriend/fiance made all kinds of pleas and promises for us to help her. We agreed to go to an attorney and sign a letter to send to the court that we would be willing to forgive the back debt to get her out of jail. Nothing more was ever done about this except she was released, and the back debt is still listed on her balance owed. My question is this... is the letter of intent we signed with the attorney binding if it was never formally forgiven by us in court? She is working now because they said she had to have a job before release, but she is doing and paying the absolute minimum so we end up getting less than half of what the order shows she must pay each month. Also, she is no longer grateful, she is getting her attitude back towards us and does little to help with the kids regarding their needs and when we ask her to see the kids her boyfriend does all the work. We are tired of this and if we aren't getting the support (financial and otherwise) that was promised us to sign the letter, we would like to reconsider our options.

sorry so long..thanks for any help.
