Thank you both for your responses. Again, I have absolutely NO intention of doing anything that is not legal. Having personal mail addressed to my maiden name from my family certainly does not fall into that category! :)

Lidj, you initially said you "don't think" it will work. I continued to pursue because you had not stated it would NOT work. Thanks again for all your time. :)

Sheesh.

Call yourself what you want to who you want. There is no crime against that. If you call yourself the same thing repeatedly without the intent to defraud, that is your common law name. If you don't use just that name, but others too, it is not your name under the common law.

It's not illegal to use not your name as your name. Period. No matter how you mean. It requires other facts to be illegal--like the intent to defraud.

Now, official government documents may not accept your common law name. For many of those, you need to make a name change. Even for those that don't care, using a common law name can cause problems and make simple things much harder than you want.

Final answer, you can call yourself what you want when you want. If you don't use the same name, there will be problems, but it is not illegal. If you don't use your official name, there will be problems, but it is not illegal.

Thank you. :( My apologies for being so dense about this, but that is why I joined this forum - to get info.
