What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

My mom is a Canadian citizen and living alone and was diagnosed with breast cancer in october, she has finished her first round of chemo after her mastectomy and halfway through her radiation. She is then scheduled to start hormone therapy (daily pills for 5 years). Since I dont live near her, I have been skyping all her appointments that involve discussion with the doctors and doing as much remotely as I can. I live in California and a US citizen so I wanted to sponsor her to come live with me after her radiation ends, in case anything else comes up with her health I can be there with her through every step. I am planning on submitting I-130 and I-485 and, once approved, paying for her health insurance through Covered California. I am wondering if there is anything else I should be doing to make sure she gets the same treatment here as she does in canada, to continue her hormone therapy (pills) and also in case she has a reocurrence. Thank you.

Yes they can. ObamaCare did away with pre-existing condition issues. Please be aware that the insurance in the US may not pay 100%.

There is no guarantee she will get the same level of care in the US verses what she now receives. You cannot do anything to guarantee that she will get the same level of care. Many of us who are born US citizens and have worked all of our lives cannot get needed care because we are in long queues for specialists and hospital admissions.

Getting insurance may be easier than obtaining care. Many physicians are not taking new patients. A physician is not required to accept a person as a patient even if he/she accepts the insurance.

In addition, prescription drug insurance does not cover all drugs. What is covered depends on the plan so she may be unable to affordably continue those she is now taking. It is not unusual for drugs not on the formulary to cost over $1000 per month. My example is a child's prescription that is $1700/mo in the US is available in Canada as a generic for less then $50/mo.
