Q: Why do the police keep coming to my house?
A: Because of what you are doing.
A: Because of what you are doing.
Now either come back with a few FACTS or get back on the PMS meds.Hey! Seniorjudge! You're not helping! If you're not here to help, then don't bother to respond. You don't know any details so don't be so quick to judge. With this whole "Patriot Act" BullCrap I want to know if I have ANY consitutional rights left or if I should just ....
and WHAT legal question have you asked?I thought this was a legit forum to ask LEGAL questions - not an excuse for people like you and seniorjudge to blow off steam. I asked a simple question and now in addition to my anxiety I've got you two flaming at me for no good reason?
They're security guards escorting Ed McMahon with your Publisher's Clearing House winnings. What do you think they want?
Yes. If they get a warrant however, they will be able to force their way in.Do I have the right to be in the safety of my own apartment that I own and not have to answer the door if they come again?
You would know better than us. Are you doing anything illegal? Did one of your ex boyfriends break out of prison? You get the picture. It's not a crime to not answer the door. If they have reason to enter they will, nothing you can do about it. You don't have to give them a free pass inside though. What do you think they want?
No, there's nothing illegal in my apartment. (That I am aware of.... I did bring back some grocery items from Europe - but nothing worth seizing: chocolate, snacks, etc...) I just don't want to give them permission to come into my house and go through my underware drawer, break sentimental items, violate my privacy etc. I've been arrested before, but they never came to my house - it was in a public place. I own the place I live in - but can they ask the building management for a spare key or to let them into my home if I don't answer the door? They're selling tickets to the Policeman's Ball...
Seriously, I would answer the door.
How does anyone here know why they were there ?
They may have been trying to check on your welfare.
Answer and find out.
People usually get into more trouble running away from issues (that probably don't exist).
Obviously, they're cops (??), so put your coat on, open the door, step outside, close & lock your door behind you, and say 'Hi, may I help you ? I'm just going shopping.' (And put your keys in your bag).
(I'm assuming there's something weird in your apartment, like drugs, or deceased Uncle Harry & you are worried about a search of your apt.)
Or, do what you are currently doing, but stop worrying and forget about them.
How easy is it to get a seach warrant?Yes. If they get a warrant however, they will be able to force their way in.
Then nothing to worry aboutNo, there's nothing illegal in my apartment.
Then don'tI just don't want to give them permission to come into my house and go through my underware drawer, break sentimental items, violate my privacy etc.
Do tellI've been arrested before, but they never came to my house - it was in a public place.
Not without probable cause and/or a warrant.I own the place I live in - but can they ask the building management for a spare key or to let them into my home if I don't answer the door?
They would need to show a judge that there is probable cause that a crime is being or has been committed. How easy is it to get a seach warrant?
They can demand it all they want. They are actually trained to make their request sound like demands, but there are no legal consequences if you don't answer the door. Besides, I leave my T.V. on all the time when I go out. They don't need you to open the door if they have a right inside. Trust me, they won't even give you a chance to open it before they kick it in.Also, if they hear the TV and know I'm home - can they DEMAND that I answer the door? Even if they don't have a warrant?
NOPE. Not if what the poster claims is the reason for them being thereThey would need to show a judge that there is probable cause that a crime is being or has been committed.
