This has GOT to be a joke. First, you've already been told that you're not necessarily being investigated. Second, just pick up the gosh darned phone and CALL the police station. Identify yourself and ask what's going on.

Bjd,
Is there anyone in your life that you trust who can come over to your home as soon as possible and be there with you while you make the call to the police? Consider it a personal emergency. You can do it. Use the energy you have to write on this forum and just do it. Who knows? Maybe it is not a big deal after all. Hang in there. No matter what happens, summon strength from within.

Public Defenders Suck

I have to agree with SteveK. Proper representation would be a big step forward. The peace of mind offered by a confident, experienced ally is a wondrous thing.
If you don't have that kind of dough, you might want to look into changing your name. The way I see it, dredging through the paperwork in order to locate you could be viewed as an additional step that may disincline the lazy law enforcement in your area. I would not have any evidence to back that up, though. It is just an idea -- and maybe a bad one at that. (Anyone?)
I'd also like to add that sucky cops and sucky public defenders truly are "dunces."

BJD36 Did you ever consider the possibility that someone is worried about you and may have asked the police to do a health and welfare check on you???? Do you have relatives or friends that you might not have contacted in a while who might be worried that something has happened to you. If you haven't done anything wrong, then you are really worrying yourself sick for no reason.
