Without knowing anything about your child's disability - child support can go beyond 18 years if the child will continue to need support into adulthood due to their disability.

E. Even if a child is over the age of majority when a petition is filed or at the time of the final decree, the court may order support to continue past the age of majority if all of the following are true:

1. The court has considered the factors prescribed in subsection D of this section.

2. The child has severe mental or physical disabilities as demonstrated by the fact that the child is unable to live independently and be self-supporting.

3. The child's disability began before the child reached the age of majority.

It is not the child that is disabled, it is the wife.

I read OP a bit differently. But it is not clear.

In order to get $4000 she would have to be the disabled one who would also be getting dependent benefits. It would not be possible to get that much otherwise.

The child is not disabled

Yes, she is the disabled one, my grandson from my step daughter has autism so therefor she will be receiving benefits forever including more for being his caregiver. I have no legal relations to the grandson from the step daughter
