Would a criminal record exist on the CJIS or pop-up at border control for a case on stet?

What is the name of your state? Maryland

I’m an international student that got detained by university police in Maryland. I never got formally arrested or got my fingerprints taken; I was just detainedfor questioning. The university police officer filed criminal charges against me and at the end my case was put on stet. Is it possible that I will have a record on a federal level, like the CJIS? Also, will anything pop-up at airport border security/control?

You should speak to your international student advisor and an attorney. A drug charge can be problematic for an international student.

If your case is on stet, that means it is inactive - but it is not dismissed. Do you have to satisfy certain conditions (like performing community service hours) before charges are (potentially) dismissed?

Just for some more detail: During the hearing the prosecutor had no evidence and the cop wasn’t even present. I dont know if that helps but i figured I might as well share that

So, you were charged and went to court and prosecution was put on hold. The stet can show up on a background check. You probably eventually will need to report the charges to immigration.

But, you need to discuss this with the immigration advisor at your school and, if you did not see an attorney before you went to court, you need to see one now.

I am afraid your drug possession has put your school admission at risk.

Yes I did in fact report it. While I appreciate the input from quincy, yours was just rude. I posted on this forum for help and advise and not to receive rude comments. I know I’ve messed up and I accept that. Idk if you’re some sort of troll or not but I won’t tolerate stuff like that. This is a forum for legal advice, its not reddit.
HighwayMan's post was a legitimate observation. If convicted, you will have a criminal record.

That is why you need to speak with an attorney. An attorney can be your best chance of having all charges against you dismissed.

Good luck.

You might benefit from having a criminal defense attorney assist with a defense to criminal charges.

It is possible that the prosecutor is considering the increased penalty a foreign student experiences with a criminal conviction on drug charges. The penalty goes beyond what a US student faces on similar charges.

I have already been working with an attorney. I doubt the prosecutor would actually be considering that as she doesn’t currently even have any form of evidence against me
