Okay.

So I got what I was supposed to get done on Monday - and the Claims Adjuster called me back (Finally) this morning, and re-took all of the information.

She then told me to call her back when I planned on dropping off the car at the body shop so she could send someone to look at it and check out the shop's estimate.

So... I'm supposed to pay to fix my car right now, and they're planning on paying me back, or what? I tried to get her to clarify on the telephone, but she kind of brushed me off and just kept saying to call her and let her know when I planned on taking it in, and then hung up. I called back and left a message but no return call yet. I don't understand why she couldn't just give me an answer in the first place.

So can someone maybe give me some kind of idea as to what I'm supposed to do now? I JUST paid for this car a few days before Christmas in cash, not to mention Christmas. I don't have $800 to fix my car right now, and why the heck should I have to pay it anyway? I'm not the one who hit my car in the parking lot!

They will review the body shops estimate or possibly even write their own. They will come to an agreed price w/ the body shop. Once the agreed price has been established, they will authorize repairs and pay the body shop when those repairs are completed. You won't(or shouldn't) have any out-of-pocket expense on this. The insurance company should also provide you a rental while your car is in the shop being repaired.

Get your car down to the body shop of your choice and get an estimate. Tell the insurance co. when you plan on leaving it at the shop f/ repairs, and they should have a rental car to meet you at the body shop when you drop your car off.

I don't understand why she couldn't just say that on the phone, jeez!

Thank you! I knew I could count on a simple, real answer here. Too bad I can't pay some of you people instead of my insurance co. :D

Rental Car

Two things:

1. Unless she has rental car reimbursement on her policy, her insurance company doesn't have to supply her with a rental car. She'd be responsible for arranging/paying for that on her own.

2. Unless she's got Uninsured Motorist Property Damage with a Collision Deductible Waiver on her policy, AND it's proven to be an uninsured motorist that hit her, she will be responsible for her deductible out-of-pocket.

Keep in mind that this was a long post and this info may have already been touched on. No need to berate me if that's the case.

Actually, the insurance of the person who hit me is paying for it. Last time I posted he hadn't given me that info yet, but he has since then. I forgot to update that.

But just to add, I do have both of those coverages.

Happy Ending

Sounds like everything worked out then. That's awesome that his insurance is going to pick up the tab. Even better, you know your coverage. Few people would know what either of those two things were, let alone if they had them.

I was going to point out the same things as Testmonkey but he got to it first, and it is true, last time you didn't know yet if he had insurance, good thing he did and you also know about the mandatory reporting of accidents, isn't it easier when you just handle it through the insurance when the other guy is at fault that trying to handle it yourself! :)

Yes. I've also learned there are situations in which trying to be the nice guy(girl) is inappropriate, and this is one of them ;)

Just an afterthought, FroggerGirl, but is your user name the result of being in so many accidents (think the video game and that famous Seinfeld episode with George and his Frogger game getting run over) or vice versa?

No.

I have never been in an accident before I bought this car right before Christmas.

1 - someone tapped me from behind in a parking lot
2 - someone hit my car while it was parked and I was in my house.

I made my username for the first incident.

Correction

Um, hey, rmet4nzkx... That's Ms. Testedmonkey. Or more specific, Mrs. Testedmonkey, per my recent contractual merger. :)
