What is the name of your state? PA
My daughter is 15 yrs old and was trying to see a 20 yr old boy which we forbid and after months of her trying to see him, texting etc we decided to only let him come to the house. He came twice and never again. He plays mind cames with her and has her upset most of the time. We can always tell when she has had contact with him.
To make a long story short she took an overdose of tylenol Tuesday and was hospitalized until Friday and they talked her into voluntarily commiting herself for a 3 day evaluation. She basicly didn't plan on killing herself, but wanted of course to shake up this boy. She could have died or have serious damage but like most teens she wasn't thinking of this.
We want to get her help outside as this place she is in is not good, its tearing her up to be away from us and the younger kids miss her so much.
She is so outgoing and great personality but got with the wrong person who kept putting her down.
My problem is we were told she could go in for this evaluation and in 3 days sign herself out. Now they are saying she could stay longer and we are afraid that this is going to change her for the worse. What do we have to do to get her out and get some good help?
They said it was strictly a 3 day evaluation. Friday they admitted her and got info. Saturday a dr talked to her for about an hour yesterday they did nothing.
The place is overcrowded and they just sit around with no actions to better the kids or help them and we want her home.
What rights do we have as parents?
Thank youWhat is the name of your state?

If it was a voluntary committment, then her parents and legal guardians had to consent. You should be able to withdraw your consent and take her home.

You also have this post over in the juvie section.

I'm going to offer this from another angle. Perhaps the hospital doesn't feel that you can properly care for her. They are mandated reporters and as such they are trying. You could have done more to keep her from this man.

I'm not trying to be mean here, but just letting you know that you have more options than you think. The old excuse of "well she'll do it anyway" isn't going to work. You have to be proactive in keeping him away from her. If they are texting each other, then take away her phone. Restrict any activity that would put her in communication with him. No computer, no phone (house or cell), no dates, etc. Remember that you are the parent.

Can they keep her involuntarily if we do try to sign her out?
Thank you for replying so quickly!
Not without getting CPS involved, and having CPS override your parental rights.

What you really need to do is consult with the psychologist of your choice and be prepared to get her immediate outpatient treatment.

One other thing that you should consider however, is that her desire to get out could be a desire to be in contact with the young man. You also need to get a restraining order against him.

Sorry, but I am in sympathy with that one. I was just like the girl when I was in high school, and I graduated in the top 10% of my class (class of 1000 students)...literally nothing helped. I even missed a final in college (luckily my professor had a sister who had the same problems, and he was sympathetic and let me make it up).

Mom, try to get a doctor to give her a prescription version of Aleve, called anaprox. It works wonders. I wish it had been around when I was your daughter's age.

Thank you LdiJ for you reply!
I am a very strict mom and often hear how mean I am and other kids do this and that! I forbid her to even go on dates even tho her peers do date. My rule is 16 and you can start but not freely!
I have called police on this boy but they said they could do nothing. I finally contacted them about what she did and now they are going to tell him he is not allowed no where near her or he will immediately be arrested. No phone calls or texting or I call the officer in charge. They seem to treat this differently after something serious happens!
I am glad of that response.
My oldest daughter now 38 years old tells me she hated me when she was a teen but is now thankful for how I raised her. I do all the calling and checking, even at her job to see if she is there. She sees it as mistrust, I see it as keeping her from losing our trust!
I don't want to go there and ask to sign her out if she does need help, I am afraid this will affect the whole family and really distance her from us if they decide to keep her. I am very willing to get her outside help to daily trips to whatever they want her to see.
I even called the outpatient place and expressed I want them involved so I can tell them I already have a place ready to see her.
Not sure there is much more I can do at this point.
They say 3 days but did nothing yesterday and today is day 4 and I have called several times this moring trying to find out what they are doing.
