I attend a private K-12th school in Texas. I'm graduating in about a month, and have been attending the school for a good 7 years. The school is Christian. Recently, I came out as an open homosexual. Understandably, this rather irked the school's Board of Directors. I am not violating any school policies, however. I've read those pretty closely.
My issue is this. Recently, the board has said that if I do not go to weekly therapy sections with a local church's pastor, they will expell me. If they do indeed have the right to expell me, then I'll just leave the school: I've got enough credits to get a High School Diploma as is.
I'm an emotional lad, however, and don't want to leave the school if I don't have to. The school claims to be principled. I suppose it's ironic that my own stubborn principles are what keep me from attending these four meetings.
I'm tired of the school telling me how wrong I am.
So I'm just curious as to what the rights of a private school are in this sort of situation. Is this sort of discrimination okay in the private sector?
Thanks for your help,
-Clayton.
