I hired a licensed landscaper and gardener to fix and replace the sprinkler heads in our front and back yard as well as clean up the yard. The house is a rental. The yard wasn't that messy and just needs a little bit of cleaning. This guy came with 3 helpers. While the 3 are doing the clean up, the boss replaced the sprinkler heads. They worked for 1 hour and charged me $230 for that day. One month later some of the sprinkler heads that he replaced are still not working properly.
I phoned him yesterday and asked him to fix the sprinkler heads again. He said he will come by but don't know when. I asked for a specific day so I can be there to see in person his work. He said he has to check his schedule and hung up on me. I consider this guy my employee and he rudely hung up on his employer (me). Three days ago he sent me a bill for $110. $30 is an additional charge that they added on the day they came to repair the sprinkler system. It wasn't in the original quote they gave me that day. They just added that amount as they see fit. The $80 is for the monthly gardening service which my husband has agreed to pay them each month. I haven't sent him his check yet.
I really feel mad at this gardener for his rude behavior. I just want to fire him now but I still want him to fix the sprinklers. He's licensed by the State of CA and he should guarantee his work. I feel that the $230 he charged me that day was way over the top considering that some of the sprinklers he replaced are still not working right.
I reiterated that I want the sprinklers fixed by Tuesday. If he doesn't show up to fix or replace the sprinkler heads, can I defer the $110 charge he asked me to pay him. Am I still liable to pay him inspite of his defective work that day? And do I owe him the $80 too? I just want to apply the $230 I already paid him for his one month's work on my yard. I just feel this gardener cheated me on his lousy work. What is the name of your state?
