No one on this thread stated that PJ was law enforcement? You sure you want to stick with that? Well, okay. Because yeah, somebody did. In fact, it was you. Pretty blatently, too. It's kind of hard to misunderstand "Perverted justice is run by the one of the FBI departments." Typo, maybe?
And then, of course, you go on to ask how in the world any of you could be "tangled in PJ's web", you certainly could never be, all you have to do is not have cybersex with children, etc. Oh, and that I'm disgusting. Well let me tell you about something that's really disgusting.
PJ got my attention years ago. I applauded their efforts, defended them, supported them, and watched as they shined the bright light of day on people who shouldn't even be allowed to call themselves human.
The people who actually participate in "capturing" these people online are really only a few trusted members of the web site. But they would glean all the personal information they could about these people, and then post that info on the web site and then the hunt was on. The game was to take that info and try to find out exactly who this person was, where he worked, where he lived, who his family was, etc. Once that was discovered--and it was amazing to see how easily people could stick a pin in someone with not much more than their IP--he got hit like a ton of bricks. Phone calls to his house, his cell, his workplace, flyers plastered all over the neighborhood. Some people made it clear that not only did they know where this guy lived, they had stood right in front of his house. No problem, a sicko like that deserves it, right? Right.
But you know who doesn't deserve it? The guy who works at a company that might be where the pedo works, who sort of looks like the pedo's picture. Or the guy who lives at the apartment where the pedo used to live. Or the little kid who answers the phone to hear "Your father is a sick ****!!! We're gonna find him and kick his ***!!" because somebody made a typo and, ooops, that's not his number. And about a dozen other different "mistake" scenarios.
Granted, the administrators at PJ don't do anything until they're absolutely sure they have the right guy. But what about Joe Schmoe who just joined the site five minutes ago and decides to get a little street justice on his own, but didn't read as far as "Nope, that's not the guy."
That could be your husband, Shay. Easy. Waaaaay too easy.
That, Carl, was my point. And thank you for giving me the benefit of the doubt.
Pedophiles deserve everything they get, and if they get something that's not quite within the scope of "due process" well, I'm not going to shed any tears. But innocent people who are at the mercy of thugs working within a mob mentality? God help them.
Believe it, don't believe it, be defensive, or offensive, or whatever. I have nothing further to add.
