Why do divorced women...

HOWEVER, when I thought I was going to be divorced, I must agree with OP, I didn't agree that divorced parents referred to themselves as single.

SINGLE = NEVER MARRIED

YAY ME! I get to be a Single Divorced Mom! Or is that a Divorced Single Mom?

Cuz ya know, I got divorced while bein a mom and stuff, and then I had another kid w/out getting married. So now i have to tailor my title to which Mom I'm being on any given day, huh?

sorry, but i gotta agree with OP....why else would a parent introduce themselves as a single parent if not to get pity or insinuate they're doin it all on their own? why not, instead, introduce themselves as a mom or dad then give their maritial background later?

Well, honestly, I've never introduced myself as a single mom... and OP didn't mention introductions... he wanted to know why 'we' would refer to ourselves that way. There's a difference.

I referred to myself as a single Mom when stupidhead had custody and I still do. I am a mom and I am single. If that makes people feel bad for me or take pity on me, that says a lot more about them (just as this thread says a LOT more about OP) than it does about me.

My 2 cents: I was married for 15 minutes...then divorced.....THEN A MOM....and remained single and have raised a child ENTIRELY by myself for 14 years. So...yes, I'm divorced.....but I've been single longer than I was ever married. And I was never married to my daughter's father. So, I definitely consider myself a single mom and hardly ever refer to myself as "divorced".
