The child is exhibiting no symptoms and running a very low fever - high enough to get sent home from school, but not high enough to be of concern.

Personally? I'd recommend Motrin instead of Tylenol. Always killed my kids' fevers FAST, Tylenol wouldn't touch 'em.

Legally? If it's not a 'get the kid into the doctor NOW' or 'take the kid to the ER' illness or 'kid is puking everywhere and can't tolerate a ride in the car' type illness, you'd better get the kid to the meeting spot as ordered. Because a touch of the flu/low fever is NOT gonna make a judge think you're in the right on this one.

yes my first child

no other symptons just sleeping a little normal as expected.

dr,s office 5 miles
er 4 miles
pharmacy 1 mile

Thought so.:D

I have 4. If one of my kids is only running 100, they're fine. Off to school they go. (as a matter of fact, they won't even send the kids home from school unless the fever is 100.5 or higher.)

Temps in young children tend to spike in the early evening through the night and then drop in the morning. If the fever was still rising this morning, then you could have cause to be concerned. As it is, it sounds like nothing more serious than one of the garden variety viruses going around.

Last week, my 4 year old spiked 104.3. I gave him Motrin (which works better on my kids. Tylenol makes them climb the walls for some reason) to bring it down. He woke up the next morning with 102 but I just watched it. It went down for the day to normal and then spiked again late that afternoon back up to 104. This went on for 3 days and now he's fine. He was eating and drinking (DRINKING is important), just a little sleepy and just a virus.

Relax. Kids run low grade fever off and on all the time. As long as she isn't acting 'off' or sick and the temp stays low, she should be fine.

I take my kids to the doctor if a high fever won't break after 48 hours or there are obvious signs of illness.

OT, but Wild learned in about 3rd grade that her temp will register @ 100 or so directly after recess or PE on warm days. So, if she doesn't want to spend the rest of a nice early summer day in school, it's off to the nurse's office she goes, and I get the phone call to pick her up.

I agree. In cases where one medication doesn't work our doc tells us to give my little ones motrin and tylenol together-it wipes out a fever FAST. I didn't know I could mix medicines like that but I guess it's ok with those two medicines.

I'm a little more proactive when my littlest runs fevers because she gets really sick with her asthma/bronchitis, and a fever is usually one of her first symptoms when the bronchitis turns into something worse (i.e. bronchiolitis, pnuemonia, ear infection.) My doc is really good about getitng us right in because littlest seems prone to things blowing up into pnuemonia for some reason.

OP, I guess if your child doesn't have medical problems like mine does, a low grade fever isn't too much of a cause for concern. I didn't mean to alarm you unnecessarily. My kids have all been 'little sicklies' lol so they are in and out of the doc's office a lot. It's good to have parents on here whose kids aren't outbreak monkeys for some advice on normal kids.:p

Well, just look at it this way. She incredibly intelligent and creative. MOST kids just hold the thermometer up to the light bulb or something.:D

Our pediatrician advised us, when son was younger and had the fibral seizures, that you can alternate Motrin and Tylenol every 2 hours. The ingredients are different and do not interfere with the other.
So, the child gets a dose every 2 hours so when the other is wearing off, the other is still working.

Heh. I'm the opposite. Until SuperEx remarried and HisLovelyWife decided that the girls need to go to the doctor for EVERY LITTLE THING, they literally went 5 YEARS w/out a single visit to the doc for illness.

Twain was 3 in January and he's only been to the doctor for illness ONCE in his life.

So I tend to underreact to fevers and stuff. Figure they're there for a reason, let 'em run their course and then get back on the train, yanno?

ex,s lawyer calls me up and i told her i was not opposed to ex getting make up time maybe adding 2 hours to her next two visits. after reading here i thought well maybe its best to let the child go to visitation. i called the childs mom who started arguing that i cant change my mind when it comes to visitation, a deal was cut and i have to stick by it.

all im trying to do is take care of the child and because i didnt know the legal definition of when the child is to sick for visitation i get more then a earfull from the mom yeesh. all i did was offer if she wanted to see the child today that i would bring the child to the drop off and or offer make up time if she wants.

ill be glad when we get introduced to the s.t.e.p. program where they monitor us closer for co perenting issues like this.

Wow, that is NICE. I wish we could go for 5 months without going to the doc for illness, let alone 5 YEARS! LOL!
