What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? FL

Ultimately, I need to know if I need a lawyer or a Private Investigator.

Long Story short, my wife attended Florida Hospital College and got her BS in Nursing in 2005. She moved to CA in 2007.
Late 2007, we were trying to get her transcripts and copy of degree and when we called the school they said they had no record of her. She gave her SSN, he maiden name, her family name, anything she could think of. We spoke to many different people (over the phone) no one could help. Even google'd her professors she had but since it was 4-5 years ago that she had them, they all vaguely remembered her but really couldn't help.

So right now my wife officially only holds an AS degree from a Jr. College but she paid and attended Florida Hospital College and got her BS in Nursing. But no one there can find any records of it. We're in CA now so its not like we can just go there in person, although we can fly there and do that, but what will that accomplish if they can't find anything over the phone.

So to get to the bottom of this, can a lawyer help? Or do I need a PI who can gain access to certain confidential information that may help?

The reason I think a lawyer can help is that they can file some document that grants access to their records and we can get to the bottom of it. Basically, I need the make those clerks look harder but complaining over the phone all they can say is "sorry I don't see any record of you". But if a lawyer shows up they will get off their butts and actually search.

Have you sent a copy of her diploma/certificate?

No because we don't have our hands on that.

She got that in 2005 when she lived in FL. She moved to CA in 2007 and didn't bring that with her. If she still has it, its at her parents place, maybe in the garage or something. At this point, since its been a few years, I have to assume its lost. We'll go there in a couple months to visit and take that time to search the garage, but lets assume its lost.

Check with the Nursing Licensing - in order to get her RN, she would have had to have her degree information given to them.

Yeah, this is the first place I went and I got their numbers and called them. The ones that answered the phones said they couldn't find her. They said they have no record of this person, no record she attended the school, and thus, no record that she has a BS from them.

We're not at this point. She's not listed here because this is for RN's. We are at the point of getting the transcripts, so she can take the RN exam. So once we get proof of the exams, she can sit for the RN.

Did you talk with admissions, or just the receptionist?
The first few times we spoke to the receptionist, then multiple receptions, at various times of the day/week all said the same thing, we then requested to speak to the admissions director, who then said the same thing.

Google Mark Hacking. How did she pay for nursing school? Her loans been paid yet? Or did she pay for it all herself with no loans?

When and where did you meet your wife? When did you marry your wife?
I know where this question is going...met her in 1999 and dated until we got married in 2007. While we did have a long distance relationship (CA vs FL), I know she was in school 2002 to 2005 as she told me and school was always there, and we had to time our trips together around both of our school schedules. In fact, one time when I visited we went to her school because it was in the area and she gave me a tour. She comes from a very religious/Christian background. So I'm not worried that she lied to me all those years.

Of course you're not.

Good religious Christian girls never lie!

No loans, paid herself and her parents. Thats another thing we are trying to get our hands out (cancelled checks) but again, its been a few years so where these checks are (and some payments were cash) we don't know.

Hey stranger things have happened. Again, google Mark Hacking. He had his wife who lived with him convinced he was going to med school. But that goes to my next questions... how did she pay for it because i can guarantee a loan company will have records.
