If an employer asks to see the SS card, it will have on it VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH INS AUTHORIZATION. At least, ours do. I think every employer I've worked for has made copies of my green card. I'm not sure if the SSN flags it or not.

My ex husband's SS card looked no different than any other SS card. However, he also didn't apply for his SS number until after he was already authorized to work.

This is a guy who also would have gotten his original green card and SS card prior to 9/11 as well.

The I-9 does require the employer to obtain proof from the non-citizen that s/he is authorized to work - passport with visa stamp, EAD, green-card, etc.

Social security number alone isn't sufficient.

But if one has a valid drivers license, normal looking SS card (his looks just like mine) and employee does not inform employer of being an immigrant....(he sounds just like a regular California guy) the employer would have no reason to check on his visa status.
When he first came back here to the states he accused me of informing Homeland Security of his child support status. Something must have happened to him at customs. I don't know what. I never called anybody.
I'd imagine he might have trouble leaving the US.
He said, "Child support says I can't leave the US and immigration says I shouldn't be here."
It seems as though our government agencies do not communicate and/or are not on the same page.

If Dad supplies a DL from a US State and a Social Security card, that is all that is required to "verify" his citizenship. He obviously has those things.

He won't have much trouble leaving the US - we don't have INS exit points. He can hope across either border and take a flight.

5 years ago he attempted to travel to Canada. Port Angeles authorities stopped him (he says because of child support) they would not allow him to get on the ferry. He left his car in the lot and snuck onto the ferry. People do stuff like that all the time. What frightens me is that HE is one of those kind of people!
I am aware that the two younger children must have BOTH parents signatures to acquire a passport. (so they say) but the 16 year old can get one with just one parent. I can only hope and pray that she wouldn't.

In answer to your original question, you do NOT have to provide Dad with any of the documents that he's requested unless/until a court directs you to. As it stands, he can get them himself if it's so important to him.

If this were a normal situation I would have no problem providing him with any and all documents concerning the kids. He does have that right.

I have already done this. It can only alert the parent if a passport is applied for.... but cannot prevent one from being issued.
Unfortunately I don't have much faith in this either.
