How to prove where someone lives

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Illinois
I am trying to prove where my ex is living. She moved about 6 months ago but hasn't informed me of where to. We have a contempt case in the 25th and I need to be able to PROVE that she has moved. Any suggestions on how I can do this?

What happened in December? (Yes, you should keep it in the same thread)

https://forum.freeadvice.com/child-custody-visitation-37/can-she-do-495061.html

Her visitation violations were thrown out by the state's attorney (her mom's friend). We were ordered to mediation but she hasn't given the court any information. Last week I recieved a paper in the mail from the circuit clerk's office that they are sending all correspondence to her c/o her mother at her mother's address.

I need to know how I can prove where she is living, which is in a different county 50 miles away. I called her employer but they still show her old address. She had a po box but it isn't active for her anymore, letters get sent back. I have a good idea where she is living but I have to be able to PROVE it in court. So how do I go about doing that?

I need to prove that she has moved. She told me that she was moving at the end of September '09 but did not tell me where just told me the county in which she was moving to. She is supposed to inform me and the court where she has moved to.

In January she told the judge that she never moved, which was a lie. In order to win my contemt case against her (for not informing me of her new address) I have to have PROOF that she moved. I have no clue how to do this.

I sent a letter to her old PO Box and am waiting for it to come back. I marked the letter: Do not forward, in case she is having her mail forwarded still to her new address. I don't know if this will be enough to prove to the court that she has moved. I would like to have something a little more concrete when I go into the courtroom on March 25th. I just am not sure how to go about it.

did she move from a rental house or apartment? If so, are there new tenants at that house or apartment?

an affidavit from the people that live at her previous address would go a long way to prove she doesn't live there anymore.

and no, the returned mail from the PO box isn't proof of anything other than she does not have that PO box anymore.

Justalayman,

That was a real good answer. I like that !!

Is it court ordered that she has to notify the courts and you before moving?

Or is this something that goes without saying?

Our court papers say that we are to notify each other of our current address in writing before we move.

As for the court being notified I think that goes without saying. We are in the middle of a custody case and she moved and has not told them where she is living.

She lived with her parents prior to moving and they told me they would testify that she still lives there, even though not one of her belongings are still there (I was there the evening that she moved).

Her cousin told me where she thought she had moved. My wife's brother lives just down the road so I told him what she drove. He says it's there everyday when he leaves for work in the morning. I've drove by a couple times going to his house and her car has been there.

Is there anyway I can get a copy of her lease from her landlord? Or is that private information?

Could she have brought a home? If so real estate land documents are public knowledge.

If she rented and left a security deposit. The old landlord would have to have a forwarding address to send her back the security deposit.

I am not sure if it is legal or not for him to give you that information.

Maybe, call the police in the town she lived. Explain your situation and ask if they can help?

Or knock on the old landlords door.

It would be a start

CPS was called to their home in December. Is it possible for me to get a report or something from them that shows her new address?
who called CPS to their home? were the children involved in the investigation? they could have lied to the CPS when they were there.

I'm still unclear on where you're trying to go with this. Perhaps adding this to one of your other threads would help?

Maybe some backstory?

Mom moving, in and of itself, might not be THAT big of a deal. And wasting a bunch of time and money on a "GOTCHA!" probably isn't worth it.

Mom and child were living with grandparents. Mom and child moved out. Grandparents talked/bribed mom into letting the child live with them. Dad wants custody because the child isn't living with a parent.

Grandparents intend to lie in court and state that mom still lives with them because they want mom to retain custody so that the child can continue to live with them. Therefore dad needs to prove that mom no longer lives there.
