That answers my question about me having her now. I get her on Friday for the weekend, so I can wait until then. It is really hard not being able to be allowed to be the one who is with her. Unbelievably hard.

Someone did make her wear a helmet - which she doesn't like to do so thank God.

CPS told me that the father was willing to go to counseling with his step-son etc and they accepted that. Of course they didnt do the counseling, and the father ended up first sending him to a diciplinary "ranch" in montana for a year and then the boy was sent to live with his maternal grandparents in Arizona where he is now.

Our parenting plan does not allow capital punishment.

I know two people to whom this exact same type of accident has happened.

I believe you, but I honestly have a hard time picturing it. My concern was perhaps the car was not actually parked.

I think you mean "corporal" punishment.

I would be tempted to question the doctor about the injuries.

As mentioned earlier, the treating Physician is a mandated reporter. If s/he suspected any chance of abuse, it would already be reported to CPS.

Was it his car? or some random car in the neighborhood? Obviously there would be front end damage to the car either way, but there should be an accident report, or EMS report. I would ask some questions, I would want to know.

if she went through the windsheild from the ouside, then glass would mostly be inside the car, if she went through the other way, obviously the glass would be on the outside. IDK, I would try to see the car, and ask some more questions.

Me also thinks mom is exaggerating in the way that caring parents do.

By "through the windshield" she means break.

I find it doubtful that the kid wound up on the drivers seat and only suffered facial lacerations.

This is from someone who has left a face shaped web of busted glass in a stationary care bike accident. (car was moving other time - pave hit pavement as I flew over the car...)

PS - Yes. I was through the windshield. I could have spit blood on the dash. (I might have.)

I hope the scars are not too bad. Mine went away after puberty. Brain damages, less so.

I would try to see the car, and ask some more questions.

I would make that more of an absolute demand.

They said it was the neighbor's car. I have a call into the father, so when he responds I'll ask more questions. They are a little defensive...

If you live close by to one another would a "first refusal" clause apply to this situation? I know when kids are sick or injured, they usually prefer a parent over another caregiver even if it is a very loving step parent, grand parent, etc. As in, if the child can't be cared for by one parent, the other parent has the option to provide care.

Actually, I know of three and the third one I personally witnessed. But that one was an adult. An extremely small adult, but still considerably more than 45 pounds. Took out the windshield and put a huge dent in the hood. Minor lacerations on the upper arm. Physics are weird.

I would probably be going to the ER after work and asking to see the reports that were done. Maybe talk to EMS if they will. I would investigate. If it was a neighbor's car, then it should be around where you can see it.

If she REALLY went THRU the windshield- I would want proof cause it seems a little odd to me with the strength of windshields and the fact that they shatter, but don't break with most impacts.

I asked twice about the "through" part, because that was my red flag, it didn't add up. the dad said it was a scion and all glass (?) he's the one who kept saying through. I asked the Dr if that were possible and he said he thought she hit the car with her head first (not face first) and that it was possible. She didnt have any broken bones in her face.

I feel better after your messages. I have been thinking about the worst case scenero and it could be just an accident. I've e-mailed his attorney which normally will get a response from him, so hopefully will get more answers.
