How can I get discharged from army faster?

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Texas
I am currently in fort hood texas awaiting to get chaptured out which could take months. I heard that fort sill discharges soldiers from awol/desertion within a week. My question is , if I go awol, and then turn myself into fort sill will I get discharged out within a week like everybody else?What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

I am not sure what chapter you are being discharged under, but I think it would be unwise to go AWOL thinking you'll get out of the Army faster; it'll just create bigger problems for you in the long run, to include your benefits if you'll still be entitled to any.

Think of it this way: you know you're getting out, so take this time you have and get your resume put together, start putting aside some money for down payments on a place to live, start a savings for emegency issues later down the road, start planning for your life after the Army. Don't worry about how long you'll still be in, because you're getting a lot of benefits while you're in that you won't get when you're out: medical, dental, life insurance, education, etc. The longer you're in, the longer you have to prepare for you getting out. Try and put it in a positive light.

No she is absolutely right. If you have not graduated from basic training or AIT they will ship you to Fort Sill where they have a specific unit run by prior military service members that will put you through the process of a Chapter 10 discharge in lieu of court martial where you would receive an other than honorable discharge. If you have completed basic training and AIT and have reported to your permanent duty station where you have been assigned to a unit you will be sent back to your unit and the next course of action would be at the discretion of your commander and could go anywhere from an article 15 to a General Court Martial depending on the length of time you were gone, intent to return, missed movements ect. I served 5 years honorably as an MP and had many run ins with AWOL soldiers. What are you being chaptered for? Your best best would be just to ride out the wait because if you're still in basic and being chaptered for something along the lines of inability to adapt or for mental health reasons you will have a much better chance at possibly honorable or even under honorable conditions. If you are already at your duty station going AWOL will only prolong your discharge for 6 months to possibly a year.

do you have a problem with someone giving advice based on experience? just curious because it seems very degrading the comments being made when this was basically my job in the military. the period i served in was very high in awol soldiers due to the start of the war and the spike in enlistments that were very often poorly planned or thought out. Trying to give answers based on things i know is all.

Actually your article says the opposite of your statement.

What you call harassment is actually just normal dialogue between most on this board kristen. I never asked you to disclose any personal information, just to cite an actual regulation to back up your assertions.

I didn't demand verification i asked a question about his background there's a difference in the wording which if you know anything about law you would know wording is key. Meaning something like what was his MOS or duties, years of service ect? All of which could be answered without mentioning any type of person information. But i'm tired of arguing with people on this website and jumping to conclusions hopefully anyone coming to this site looking for help double checks any of the information they have been provided because it seems there's a lot of people here trying to degrade and tell people there is no hope instead of simply providing the information they are trying to seek. Good luck to all, apparently there is a reason why this website is free.

On a side note - our #2 is home from deployment in 10 DAYS! She stuck it out even though she's hated it at times. Yes, we wish she was home this weekend - heck, you know we've all (herself included!) wanted her home for months now - but she's coming home finally.
