Alright. you cant tell OP weed is no big deal, then demean me as a pothead. I'm not calling any of you wine drinkers alcoholics...

Then I suggest she get a lawyer for her divorce, and don't delay the divorce even if she cant get a lawyer.

and try to come to terms, with her husband, about visitation and property division. leave the support to the court.

I'm not particularly pro-pot (not particularly anti- either) but my sister-in-law (who doesn't drink alcohol, doesn't smoke cigarettes or other tobacco products, doesn't take over-the-counter meds, doesn't eat processed food, and seldom takes prescription meds unless it's a life-or-death situation) smokes one or two joints (max) per week at home while my nine-year-old nephew is somewhere in the same house with her. While this is certainly illegal and probably not something I'd do around my own kids (if I smoked pot and if I had kids), I absolutely cannot wrap my brain around how this could somehow possibly be worse than people who drink a case (or more) of beer every single day in front of their kids.

I feel the same way that you do. I think it should be legalized and regulated, and we would get rid of a lot of crime.

Like alimony laws, society will eventually get what society wants.

If someone were entrusted with watching my kids, and drank, smoked tobacco or whacky weed while doing it, it would be the last time.

As well as the tax revenue, the small business boost, job creation and the relief from over crowding of jails for non violent marijuana convictions. So many pluses, so little downside.

its just time to stop criminalizing and start taxing and regulating.

And it's also just time to expect people on the alimony gravey train to be held accountable for supporting themselves instead of making someone their legal slaves.

It ain't going to happen anytime soon.

I never said I thought it should be legalized.
I will. If drugs were legalized, LE would have more resources to go after child molesters, murders, and other violent criminals. Street crimes would decrease. Taxes from the LEGAL SALE of drugs would provide much needed money to many communities.

Best of all...The thugs now controlling drugs would lose their power.

Done with rant.

'Splains a lot...
thats fine, I'd rather be pro pot then a active drunk.

its just illogical and stupid to not progress in this topic. I personally cannot think of ONE reason pot should continue to be criminalized, and illegal. or frowned upon for that matter. so what it slows us down, drinking kills thousands a year. even people who dont drink / havent been drinking.

One big distinction here, drinking is not illegal; growing, smoking or selling dope IS illegal. If you want to escape from reality, become a judge.

Custody is not determined by what's legal. It's determined by what's best for the kids - which is not always the same thing.

I sometimes drive a little bit over the speed limit. That's illegal. Does that make me a worse parent than someone who neglects their kids, treats them like dirt, and doesn't spend any time with them - but who drives at the speed limit?

It's all about 'best interests' of the child - and most courts consider occasional pot smoking when the kids aren't around to be fairly harmless.
