i honestly wasn't thrilled with my outcome. "so you take her out of my son's class and stick her with OTHER children?". i had and STILL have issues with that. the director declined to comment on my question. she was also a special ed aide.

my son's counselor made it very clear to us in a parenting class. we are our children's FIRST line of defense. and no one, NO ONE should be a stronger advocate than we are for them.
I wholeheartedly agree. My husband calls me 'the mama bear'

I will always fight for my child. I don't mean to say that my child can do no harm. By all means if she is in the wrong she will know...she strongly dislikes being without the computer for a week etc. But I have always told her that I will go to the mattresses for her (LOL)

A small update...

My daughter went to school today.
Police officer never went.
Teacher still there.
Police office nver called me as he said he would.

My daughter came home from school with a "Complaints about personnel" paper. While I appreciate them sending the form home, I fail to see how it apllies to the situation. It has no mention of a tecaher physically assualting a student, with proof mind you.

Some of the ke points of the letter:

"The district places trust in its employees and desires to support their actions in such a manner that employees are freed from unnecessary, spiteful, or unjustified criticism or complaints"

It goes on to say to speak to the teacher first, then principle, then superintendant. If no satisfactory result "He/She may request a session of the board...if the board decides to hear the request...if the board does not decide to hear the request of the complainant the decision of the superintendant shall be binding"

"It is the intent of the board that the rights of the employees under collective bargaining agreements and VT law be protected through the administers of this policy"

Now I am confused. What about the rights of my daughter? I am glad that the school and the school board want to cover the teachers butt, but what about the fact that this teacher pysically put her hands on my child???

This is supposed to be a no-tolerance school against ANY violence...yet I guess it is alright for the teachers!

If you really want to kick the table, battery is a tort.
I understand what you are saying. But that would only effect the teacher, right? I am beyond upset...by how the school is reacting! They never even called me! I had to hear what happened from my daughter. While they took pictures, had the teacher appologize and thought that would be enough???

I am upset with the teacher for what she did. I am upset with the school by what they are doing. I just feel at a loss. I want to fight but I don't even feel like I know where to begin.

My husband said to call the news station, and tell them to investigate? I don't know anymore.

The teacher was working for the school. The teacher is not going to be directly affected. The district or the union will provide a defense. You can include the school in the suit, but it would complicate things.

The school will know, as will the community.

As to the overall, I didn't get as outraged as the rest. I don't think the press will get involved over a bruise in this situation. What they might get interested in is school policy on investigations.
