My daughter was in psych. treatment for years, as she approached her 16th birthday we were advised to sign over our rights because in this state a person at the age of 16 can refuse medical treatment.
She is now with a foster family and they have been feeding into her that we "gave" her away..... we did what was best for our daughter.
They have restricted her communication with us and have denied us visitation even after at our last DCF meeting they said we could meet with her.
We are at a loss. None of the people involved can publicly say that they advised us to sign over our rights and we are heart broken at the thought of our daughter thinking we abandoned her.
What if anything can we do?

Did you hand over custody or were your parental rights actually terminated?

We were advised to hand over our rights. They were not terminated!

You didn't answer my question.

Were your parental rights terminated by the court (even if you did it voluntarily), or did you sign over custody?

The two are VERY different.

I'm very sorry for the confusion.
We signed over custody.
Thank you for your help.
If you signed over custody then sue for visitation. Also sue for an order requiring counseling for you and your daughter.

If, however, you no longer have rights, then you cannot ask for ANYTHING.
