I seriously doubt that CPS or the state is going to intervene because someone has HBO/Showtime/etc. in the kid's room.

Was it a mistake not to put proper parental controls on it? Yes. Was it intentional? I doubt it.

I suspect that the OP has since corrected that mistake. At least, I hope so.

Whether any of us might chose to put satellite or cable TV in a young child's room is beside the point. The OP had a right to do that and there is something to be said about doing that. The issue would be whether or not the parent knowingly allowed or exposed the child to pornographic images. That does not seem to be the case.

I refuse to castigate the OP for having TV in their child's room. It's not something I might do, but I an see some advantages in it. And, I for one, have also forgotten to put controls on access to my Direct TV or HBO Go and found kids watching inappropriate stuff on the TV or internet until I DID make those changes. But, like the OP, it didn't really occur to me until after I found out about it.

My concern here is whether or not the child has had some other exposure that the OP is unaware of.

My empathy in this serious situation goes out to you.

While I agree with Justalayman that -punishing- this behaviour can have damaging effects on a young child, it is up to you how he ends up seeing the suspension. My suggestion is to not focus on appealing the suspension, but on helping your child. Treat the suspension as an opportunity to take a break and get counseling. He may not only have been viewing pornography but may haber been abused. The kissing part is far more serious than showing.

If you harp on this he WILL "accidently" overhear you and will pick up that this is a horrible punishment and that he is "bad."

In the future, when something serious happens, please treat it seriously.

Actually no. If my daughter was sexually ASSAULTED by another child, regardless of their sex, I would take her to the Pedi or ER. I would want a PROFESSIONAL to evaluate her to determine if it went beyond "curiosity".

In THIS thread the OP allowed ADULT channels to be viewed by a little boy. Said boy acted out the sexual images he saw on another child.

I'll be honest - this surprises me, coming from you. For years, we have heard about supervising our children on the Internet (in particular) specifically due to pedophiles and inappropriate material). TV is not much different - there is a TON of stuff on there that is not appropriate for younger children. I'm surprised that a cop wouldn't think to put those controls on first thing.

They had access to the internet for school work starting at age 9 (when they had to start writing reports in 4th grade - on the state (California and the Missions). I tried three different sets of parental control programs and in ALL of them I had to consistently go to the computer and bypass the controls. It got to the point where I was getting calls at work almost every night. Controls might work better today, but my kids are older and I do not have the controls on them any longer.

What I DO have is a log of the sites they visit and even their chats if they conduct them - and they know that. Unfortunately, they can text on their phones and even check the internet and that I cannot so easily monitor.

As for the TV it never occurred to me that softcore flicks like Bikini Aliens (or some such thing) was available on HBO Go. Since I never looked for the Adult titles, and it was not a pay-per-use site (as I have an HBO subscription) I did not consider it. Once my wife discovered it on the iPad, I instituted the controls to remove access to adult titles.

I have those controls on the TV now as well, but never really had to since my kids are usually in bed well before those flicks come on, and none of them have Direct TV in their rooms.

As for the OP's situation, I think everyone's dumping harder on her than is warranted given the information we have here. We are leaping to a conclusion that the OP's son was the instigator ... do we know that for a fact? Could it be that, perhaps, OP's son was talking about the movie and the other child acted out something that he saw himself (the mouth on the penis). One thing to remember about the HBO/Showtime late night movies is that the do not show the male member, and as such it may be harder for a 6 or 7 year old to get an idea of what, exactly, is going on in those scenes. Of course, if mom and dad have one of the porn subscriptions, then maybe that could be accessed ... if that were the case, shame on them, and I hope they corrected it, but it is hardly the most abusive incident in history and occurred a year ago.

The children should be sent to a counselor to help determine where the idea came from and whether or not the children are being exposed to something that they should not. Young children do get curious, and they will explore touching and the like. Clearly one or both of the children were emulating something they saw, but it is not clear just yet what it was they saw.

We know what OP said:

OP didn't seem to object to that conclusion. However, you are correct that OP can certainly challenge it - she was told early on that she could appeal the decision and/or get an attorney involved.
