What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Georgia

I have been married for almost a year to a vet who receives a disability pension. This is the only income we have. To date, the VA has not updated his pension amount to reflect the marriage and my child (who is not his) and lord only knows when they will even begin processing the adjustment.

Needless to say, this has caused a huge strain on the relationship. We live in Section 8 housing that was designed for homeless vets and their families and receive a discounted rent. My husband has been talking about leaving the relationship and making sure me and my child are left homeless.

What options do I have ? I want to be prepared if he does decide to let the VA know he is vacating the home.

Thank you but I don't think I can do this on my own. I have no income and a child so if anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

Keep in mind, also, that unless this man has effected a stepparent adoption of your child, he is under NO obligation to support the child in any way, shape, or form. It's unlikely that when the pension is updated to reflect the marriage that it would include any additional amounts for your child.

Perhaps it is time for YOU and the FATHER of this child to support said child?

Thank you for the info. His counselor did say the child would be included in the calculations. At this point it seems moot - we have no idea when the funds will be disbursed.

I am not asking him for child support - that's ridiculous. I want to find out what rights I may have to spousal support, if any. And if he has the right to terminate our lease (I am on the lease also) and housing benefits if he decides to leave (just separate).

Then you might want to find a job and save up some money because no one works for free. What did you do for income before you were married and depending on your husband for income? If the housing is meant for disabled vets, then I'm guessing that ultimately you'll be the one leaving the household with your child, not him. You may want to start coming up with a way to be self supporting. A one year marriage isn't going to get you much if anything in spousal support, especially from someone receiving disability themselves.

You've only been married to this man a year. Lady you need to take care of you and the child(ren) you created. Where is the child's father? Why aren't you working? Why should Court Clerk, Blue Meanie and I support you and yours?

I have no idea why. It says that the OP has 52 posts, but when looking at her prior postings only 6 show up. The upgrade of this site sucks.

But OP, why did you report her post asking why you can't get a job?

I can't say that OP was the one to report me. Could have been one of the "special guests" we seem to get on the weekends....Who know or cares. Mother will deal with it. ;)

But if you want to view all of the other threads: Go to OP "profile page" then click on "threads"

Also, OP was attempting to get divorced by December 31, 2010 but it appeared that it would not be completed until 2011.
And she was receiving alimony from that spouse or wanted it:

I am filing for divorce and need help with the question of settlement and alimony. My spouse has agreed to support me for 6 months and we included that in the settlement agreement. I checked the box on the complaint for alimony which states I am financially dependent on him and need the court to order him to pay alimony. My spouse thinks I am asking for additional money.

Should I not check that I need alimony ? because I need alimony but the amount is in the settlement agreement. Like
Also in 2009, her "ex" was in arrears 30k. Wonder if she was working then. She has also had friends with criminal issues, eviction issues and various other maladies.

I'll bet that his counselor wasn't made aware that the child was neither biologically your husband's, nor that he had not legally adopted and assumed financial responsibility for the child.

And why would you be expecting part of the pension to cover YOUR child when he has no obligation to provide ANY support for YOUR child?
