What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Ohio

Someone close to me got a dissolution of marriage a couple years back. I examined the docket online and it shows a "child abuse" and "HB 335 Domestic Violence Shelter" having been applied and paid for by his ex. I've come to find this is a common filing/application (as I searched other dockets). What does this mean and why is it filed? I don't want to assume it's an automatic accusation of any sort on the spouse, but rather a standard or optional filing to cover some sort of bases, "just in case."

Are these papers becoming a standard process, or individualized picking by the spouse? They're not free, so clearly there is effort put into wanting them filed (and other dockets I checked in the public system do not have them filed). I'd just like to know why these papers would be filed (motive-wise), aside from being an actual reflection of some sort of abuse possibly occurring.

Thanks for any help.

Nah, you're not "confused."

You're "curious."

Perhaps you should let your new flame handle their own affairs...

Nosy is more like it.

I think that the applications are self-explanatory. It appears that there were allegations of child abuse during the marriage and that the other parent was probably a resident of a domestic violence shelter when the papers were filed.

If the "someone close to you" was the person who actually alleged the child abuse, they probably would have said something to you about it. Since you had to find out through the court filings, I would say that they hid a very important issue which you should be exceptionally careful about.

You two are very rude. First of all, they're FREE, PUBLIC records, thank you. They're open to people to view for a reason, one of which is for one's safety in dating someone. I think it's a smart thing to do, actually, with how people behave these days. I asked for help, and instead you are giving me lip and trying to shame me. Secondly, you don't even know the details of why it's being done. Thirdly, the person is 100% fully aware of this, so it's not like he or she is being deceived in any way. Finding out what's on record IS a smart idea, and it's a shame you don't see it that way. If you don't wish to help, and would rather bash me for some morality issue, then I'd suggest you do not respond to this post any further. It's irrelevant, and this is a place for obtaining informational and legal help--not having a finger shaken at a person for his or her difference in so-called morality.

I think you need to rethink your motives...and future with this person.

We don't care to deal with 3rd parties. It's not your business.

Feel free to check our past "rude" postings to verify.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

If the person who is actually involved knows you are looking up the filings, then you wouldn't be here asking for the "motives" of the filer, nor would you be reading about them online. The person involved in the case owns the paperwork.

But you go on with your curious self.

I simply wanted informational help. I didn't fully understand why papers like that would show up. It's as simple as that. I didn't think it would offend so many darn people like this. And yes, I am curious (nosy, etc.--call it what you will)--who isn't in his or her own way (we're all guilty, so back off; it's the nature of the beast, and it's a survival tool)? People choose what they wish to make their business, and I see nothing--and I mean NOTHING--wrong with searching a public database. Give me a break on that already. Geesh. :(

Thanks and goodbye.

Yep, nothing wrong with it. And there's nothing wrong with us telling you what we've told you.

You're welcome. Buh-bye!

We aren't "offended." We just don't usually care to deal with 3rd parties, nor to help them invade another's privacy.
