I'll be waking up at 6am in order to begin my long walk there. Wish me luck =(. If they don't give me my car keys back, I will be forced to drop out of my senior year of college. If that's the case, I will be surely paying out of the ass for an attorney.
seriously? You have gotten through 3 years of school and you do not have the wherewithal to figure out a way to get around without your car? How about buying another car? Taxi, bus, friends, family? Nobody willing to help you?

and why do you need your keys? getting your car is what is critical. There are work arounds once you get the car back.

What I'm trying to achieve: the least amount of payment possible (for instance, I want the cheapest way out) while getting my possessions back in the quickest way possible. The charge itself isn't that bad and I could care less if I have it on my record. That said, I don't need to pay a $250 fine, after getting my ass kicked in a defenseless position, on top of however much it cost for them to tow my car, that was legally parked, and hold it in the pound for three days.

They've said I'll get my stuff back tomorrow. It doesn't seem likely for them to keep my stuff for months.. but I will be sure to keep my mouth shut.

Good luck. I hope things go well from this point forward. But, don't forget about the Dean.

What am I going to do with a car and no keys? LOL. For real? Maybe I'll get behind it and push it out of the pound and all 5 miles home. There is no way around without a car. Family doesn't live here, I don't possess friends, Taxis would leave me broke, etc. etc.
My old car pooped out last year, which required me to walk to class (yes, walking is faster than taking the bus). This scenario cost me two jobs and my grades severely suffered.

I can't drive a car without getting my keys back. Regardless if I go buy another key, those guys still have my wallet with my keys.. which contains my ID and insurance cards--health and car--and my financial cards (did you know you can't apply for having a new debit card sent to you without an ID?). They don't care if you know your social or online bank account password. Can't get an ID without money.

They've literally taken everything I need in order to function.

If I don't get it back tomorrow, I don't know what I'm going to do. We're down to the last two weeks of class.

Yep, for real. It really isn't a problem. In fact, it might be as simple as a trip to a dealership that sells the brand of car. I don't have all the information to say so it could be a bit more but still not impossible.

all able to be overcome. If you can't figure that out, then you aren't motivated enough.

and getting a new debit card without an ID? Seriously? How does the bank check that over the phone? Last time I needed one it was a phone call away.

so, you cannot find a means to travel for 2 whole weeks so you can salvage the entire semester.

I remember in the 'good ol' days' when I was in college I used to take the bus. It gave me time to read before class, and even study - and someone else did the work of driving. It was actually pretty convenient. Even today, in my small town that is 25+ miles from the nearest college or university, kids load onto the bus to get to school. And, even better, they don't need ID.

As for the debit card, while it shouldn't be a problem because you will be getting it all back Monday, my wife just ordered new ones by phone. No ID needed. Perhaps you should consider a new bank.

Haha, while I know you guys think you are being intelligent and cute, you have no idea how my life runs. If I take the bus, I lose an hour of time over walking.. which is fine for my morning classes, sure, but when I need to get to work after that it's impossible. And then from work to class is a period of 30 minutes for travel. Then, my second job (which I can work from home) requires a specific amount of time per day that cannot be wasted on a bus. In the grand scheme of things work > school (as without work, I have no place to live). Thus, school is sacrificed to continue living. School is not cheap. In the end, I am losing a huge investment over (in my opinion) taking the safe route on top of having to pay fines and towing/impound services to "the Man". I doubt I'll find myself in this situation again, but if I do I now know to call a cab because chilling in your car is illegal.

If it were so possible to use the bus, I wouldn't have the need for a car. Public transportation doesn't work here like it did in my previous city of London. I spend so much money on that hunk of metal with wheels (including all of the fees to "the Man") so that I can drive it. Not so they can take it away from me because I decided not to drive while intoxicated.

I visited my bank yesterday in attempts to grab a new and/or temporary card and was denied for not having an ID.

fine. Obviously you have an answer for everything. I guess you will just have to drop out of school, quit your job and start your life as a homeless bum.

You can lead a horse to water but obviously you cannot make him drink.

I thought that was the problem that started all this.

I have no answers. These are simply my plans of action. The whole point of that post was explaining why I WOULDN'T quit my job over dropping out of school to avoid being homeless..

OR, they just give my keys back and all is well. :D

It's not like I was slanging drugs out of the damn thing.

Aye, I'll pass on the drinks for quite some time. Lol.

I normally don't go out and it's even less rare for me to get intoxicated. I was just having a good time listening to the bands, socializing, etc. and went overboard. I didn't kill anyone or start a riot.. so I figure it will be a slap on the wrist. I can't see them making any big deal about it as long as they get their fine money. As we well know, money is the motivation. I checked it out online, DIP is only $90. So, I should be looking at only $130 or so + towing costs. Unless the towers decided to go for a joy ride around the city, I can't see my total payments being more than what I have saved as comfortable overhead.

I'm sure I can sell enough illegal drugs and/or firearms in a few days to make up for the loss. Maybe I can teach you guys the art of horse whispering for next time you want to attempt to make fun of someone.

In all seriousness.. I do appreciate your guys' help.

There was no real headway made, but that's not your fault. I did get to find out that everything they did, while not totally "legal", can be played off as legal due to my status. The fact that the system is set up in such a biased way that "criminals" are outvoted by "honorable men" is a shame. I'll have to plan more ahead in the future and hopefully not be intoxicated so that I know when to hold my tongue.

I may also have to write a few letters and try to convince people that us kids should be allowed to sleep it off in our cars due to it being so much safer than getting on the road. No harm can come of someone sleeping off drunkenness in their car.

Until they wake up and decide they are sober enough to drive home.

One of the first things to go with alcohol impairment is judgement. Many people who are objectively impaired believe they are fine and perfectly capable of driving home. It's not the stumbling drunk that is the only concern on the roadway, it is also the so-called "buzzed" driver.

Best to either avoid drinking and driving, or, seek a truly sober designated driver. Being passed out in a car also can result in said sleeper becoming a victim in other ways. Nothing says "target" or "victim" better than being unconscious on the streets.

I shall hold my tongue. Quick learner.

Next time a cab will be called. There was actually a few that I passed while walking to the car; I just figured it better to sleep there.
