i recently started receiving social security for 1334 a month because im disabled it is permanant my problem is they docked 250 for free housing which isnt free my roommate just waited out me getting the social security the problem is now i wanna move and the deduction is hurting the bottom line on my monthly income. my roommate is married but estranged from his wife for over 6 years and he is my boyfriend. im not on the lease cus i have an eviction on my record and i dont know how to get that 250 dollar deduction removed by social security do i need a lawyer

Let's start with your confusion about terms.

Your title refers to "SSI" docking your income. SSI is a low income program, it is not an agency, not a group of federal employees. The office that administers SSI is the Social Security Administration (SSA). SSA also administers Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), Social Security Retirement, and Social Security Survivors benefits. I will forever be angry at whoever chose the name SSI (Supplemental Security Income) as the name for the new welfare program for the disabled because the letters and the name create a great deal of confusion.

So, if you are getting $1334 SSDI benefits, there is no reduction for free housing since SSDI is not a welfare program, not a needs based program; and if you are getting SSI benefits, there is no way the amount is $1334 a month since the federal benefit is only $710. So I think you are confused both about what you are getting and why it is the amount that it is. I agree that at this point you need to have a face to face interview with an employee of SSA. You could also read the notices that you are being sent and see exactly what they say for the amount of your benefit.

I am a little confused about how you can get an EIC (earned income credit) when you have been off work, but that is another discussion.
