I should have known the advice on this forum would be worth exactly what I paid for it.
Another site that has contributors with actual law experience has informed me that I do have leverage against Sears (IF I need it). It's not implied warranty, it's more simple than that; they breached their contract to supply what was purchased, and that contract lasts 6 years before expiry. Seeing as they have a record of the sale it's unlikely that they try to force us to find the receipt, as if it did go to court they could be forced in fact to accept their own records as the proof that they want.
Anyway. This wasn't about a court case, I just wanted some knowledge under my belt just in case the manager fights against it when he calls me on Sunday.
As for the taking photos, not that I need to justify it, I just took a couple to send to my father in law. There's really no need for you all to be so rude, but I do appreciate the serious advice that was given.
