Sorry...we don't do homework. What is the laws and consequences (if any) for a person 17 years of age to "runaway" from home? In michigan
Not at age 17.Your parents can report you to the police who may if they happen to run into you take you home.
Read Michigan's law. There is no legal consequence IF the runaway is 17. Under the age of 17, there can be legal consequences. There would however be perhaps some very serious consequences for a parent or other family member who harbors a runaway. So its not something that should be contemplated to force a change in the child's custody.
That's the Aiding or abetting law. It doesn't mean the parents can't report the minor and the minor can't be taken to or held for the parents. Not at age 17.
There is also no legal consequence for someone who "aids or abets" the 17-year-old runaway.
MCL 722.151: http://www.legislature.mi.gov/doc.aspx?mcl-722-151
There are no legal consequences for the 17 year old who runs away, and there are no legal consequences for those who assist the 17 year old runaway, and the police cannot pick up or hold a 17 year old, to return the 17 year old to the parents' home, if the 17 year old objects. It is not illegal, in other words, for a 17 year old in Michigan to run away from home. That's the Aiding or abetting law. It doesn't mean the parents can't report the minor and the minor can't be taken to or held for the parents.
You may be right but it isn't that law that does it except for the assisting of the 17-year-old.There are no legal consequences for the 17 year old who runs away, and there are no legal consequences for those who assist the 17 year old runaway, and the police cannot pick up or hold a 17 year old, to return the 17 year old to the parents' home, if the 17 year old objects. Thank you very helpfulI am right.
The police in Michigan cannot compel a 17-year-old to return home. The police can inform the parents that their child is okay, though.
