There possibly is no consequence for the 17-year-old. Under the age of 17, on the other hand, the courts in Michigan still have jurisdiction and the police can pick up the runaway and return the juvenile to his/her home.

There would however be perhaps some very serious consequences for a parent or other family member who harbors a runaway. So its not something that should be contemplated to force a change in the child's custody.

Read Michigan's law. There is no legal consequence IF the runaway is 17. Under the age of 17, there can be legal consequences.

That's the Aiding or abetting law. It doesn't mean the parents can't report the minor and the minor can't be taken to or held for the parents.
There are no legal consequences for the 17 year old who runs away, and there are no legal consequences for those who assist the 17 year old runaway, and the police cannot pick up or hold a 17 year old, to return the 17 year old to the parents' home, if the 17 year old objects. It is not illegal, in other words, for a 17 year old in Michigan to run away from home.

You may be right but it isn't that law that does it except for the assisting of the 17-year-old.

I am right. :)

The police in Michigan cannot compel a 17-year-old to return home. The police can inform the parents that their child is okay, though.
