Just because the item was sealed in a box doesn't mean it came from the factory that way and the maker is free to require proof of purchase.
Proof of purchase is not an issue. Item being new is not an issue. The fact that it was not purchased from a B&M store appears to be only issue however that was never disclosed.

By the way, Grill has to be assembled by hand, all the parts were sealed in plastic bags down to the last nut, bolt, etc.. BBQ Grills get very dirty and worn, its pretty obvious when it has been used however that fact that its new does not seem to be an issue here.

The issue at hand is if they can make up terms not disclosed in the warranty information after the fact to reject a claim or if there is legal basis for a lawsuit against them.

If Ford tries to void your car warranty for getting your car service from a 3rd party place( a non-ford authorized dealer), the law said you can fight them on that.

Question is if you can take the same approach in this BBQ warranty situation which is the information I am seeking.

@VideoPad Perhaps I missed it, but do you actually have a receipt for the item?
Yes, as far as online receipts go. Its not from a cash register like you get from home depot but rather an email confirmation acknowledge what was purchase, a price, a payment method,etc.. You have made purchase online before right?

Yes it is. No matter what you think is happening, if you don't have the dated purchase receipt (a condition of the warranty) you don't get it fixed.
I do have a dated receipt. The company is not rejecting is due to time limitation, they said it was because they do not approve of the online merchant I purchased it from. They said they honor the warranty from physical store such as Home depot/Lowes,etc.. not these online sellers.

They do not claim its outside of the date in question. I have an email from them saying exactly why its being rejected and it has everyone to do with the fact they don't like where I purchased it from online.

However this condition is not printed on their warranty page.

I am not your friend Henry. Is this someone you know in real life or someone who post on this forum?

Should I assume has had a question like this one posted before?

Thanks.
It's possible, but the it's more often that we have posters with similar attitudes.

Florida, I do not believe the manufacturer sells directly to the consumer.

I know the product is for sale at Home depot, Lowes, Sears, Walmart, Ace hardware and those type of stores. Also, online Ebay, Amazon.com, etc....

Warranty page that came with the grill and that is online has no indication that certain stores purchase apparently void the warranty.
Rather it said stuff like surface rust is not covered, time limitation on certain parts,etc...

Seem to me like they made up this limitation on the spot and it was not disclosed on the warranty information provided with the product.
Sears, Home Depot and Walmart all sell online. In fact as they went bankrupt Sears now only sell online as all their retail stores are gone.

they said it was because they do not approve of the online merchant I purchased it from.
And there is what I was getting to way earlier in the thread. The fact that it is an online merchant likely has nothing to do with it. It is likey the fact that it wasn't an authorized merchant.

I stand corrected.
They have 182 outlet stores still open. Such a shame to see a once great retailer and employer slowly dying.

I think it is a problem with the seller of the grill and not with the warranty. This time of year especially you will find sellers online (and in parking lots and in spam ads) selling stolen and counterfeit goods, hence the need for a legitimate receipt from a recognized seller if you wish to repair or replace any item.
