What is the name of your state? KY

Does a protective order just protect someone from having their dirty laundry aired out i.e. gossip?
-or-
Or does it actually excuse/pardons them from crimes?

For example, say I obtain documents after I sign a protective order and find out someone got a job by lying about their degree -or- their citizen status or -or- was involved in money laundering etc. does the protective order prevent me from reporting them? or does it just prevent me from telling everyone at my super bowl watch party this weekend?

A protective order prevents the one under the order from doing whatever s/he was doing that led to the legal action. It can prohibit contact or prohibit actions but rarely can it prohibit speech.

A protective order does not “pardon” or excuse crimes.

Why?

Neither of these are things that a protective order would do.

The term "protective order" refers, generally, to a court order that prohibits a person from having contact with another person or from coming within a specified distance of a particular location.

For example, say I obtain documents after I sign a protective order
The only way you would "sign a protective order" is if you are a judge.

does the protective order prevent me from reporting them?
You seem to be asking what some hypothetical document that you have inaptly described as a "protective order" says, but there's no way anyone could possibly know that unless you tell us what it say, and if you could do that, you wouldn't have to ask us.

In other words, Taylor, what is this all about?
It's about business dealings, but also a potential divorce looming.

The other parties lawyer agreed to provide what I asked IF ONLY I sign a protective order. If I do sign the protective order and I find out there are crimes in the documents provided....I wanted to know if the protective order prevents me from reporting the crime

You are confused. You have been asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement.

Nothing can prevent you from reporting crimes.

If you are unsure whether to sign a document or not, it is best if you have the document personally reviewed by an attorney in your area (NOT the other party’s attorney). You do not want to sign anything you do not fully understand.

Ok...the terminology doesn't matter, but what you're being asked to do is stipulate to a protective order. In this context, a protective order is a court order that allows parties to litigation to exchange certain information but limits what the recipient can do with the information. It also specifies what needs to happen if one or the other party wants to submit documents that are subject to the order as evidence.

If I do sign the protective order and I find out there are crimes in the documents provided....I wanted to know if the protective order prevents me from reporting the crime
A protective order can't prevent things from happening. It can only specify that certain actions will have certain consequences.

You've provided very little context, so I can only suggest that you rely on your lawyer's advice (and, if you don't have a lawyer, hire one).

An Order of Protection is a report issued by a court and approved by a judge to help protect you from abuse or harassment.
