What is the name of your state?

Regularly, due to issues some of you know, I check the web site that contains criminal records for our local court.
SHOCKED!
Today, I put ex's name in...

He is listed as on Feb. 15, 2006 a criminal charge at 12:00 am.
It does not give any detail, just the case # and the date & time, except it also says it's an "inactive" case.
Not closed, not active like the others on the dockets say.
What does inactive mean?
Can I head down there and find out what the charge was?

This may be important, custody case is May 2, unless posponed again for another week or 2.

Q: Can I head down there and find out what the charge was?

A: It's obviously public info. Go find out.

Are you sure it was he and not another party with the same name? I see LOTS of legal actions against parties of the same name who are different people.

is it a criminal charge or is it traffic, I am thinking hmmmmmm 12 at night sounds like DUI or DV, or course there are lots of other fun things to be up to at that time of the night, does it give a case number, usually those are indicative of the charge, or at least they are in my state.

edited: okay so I am going blind, I see now where you say that it does have a case number, usually they contain letters that indicate the type of offense.

PS. I check on my ex all the time too, I also check on his health, in the obits LOL

These sites usually include birth dates and other pertinent information.

I know there is no one else in our area, or state for that matter listed in any phone book with his name. Plus, they give the middle initial too.

I'm just mad the site was re-structured. Previously, I could click on the case and view it right there.

Any idea what "inactive" means?

I sent an e-mail to see if they can provide it to me that way, I hate paying a fortune to park down there and take off work for something I could have gotten easily just a month ago.. If not, I'll certinly be heading in to get it. This is something that could certainly be helpful.

Court is a definate - May 2.

This new one just case #, name, and status.

It would be a second DUI if that is the case. He got one in 2001.
I'm actually thinking maybe posession. I was unable to prove he STILL uses a selection of drugs, but was able to prove he did in the past after the divorce and was put in rehab for it - OXY's.
Never thought of DV, don't know if he has a GF or not.

Go get it. You should be able to view the police reports (though may not be able to make copies of it) at the clerk's office. All of these are public under FOIA. Though Ohio doesn't have a great record of abiding by it according to a series of stories by the Beacon Journal, Plain Dealer and Dispatch.

In her other thread I advised her to notify the evaluator, most likely this is in conjunction with the criminal investigaiton of her Ex for vehicular manslaughter.

I really think you could be right rmet. I am thinking it is the hit-and-run and it's not to the point of proceedings yet, maybe still under investigation.
I want to run down there NOW!

I finally found something on "inactive".

RULE 48
INACTIVE CRIMINAL CASES

48.01 Criminal cases in which further proceedings are not presently possible shall be placed in an inactive file by the Clerk and considered closed for statistical purposes either upon motion of the Prosecuting Attorney or the Court's own motion and shall not be subject to dismissal for want of prosecution. A case shall be removed from that list when the Defendant is available and proceedings resume or when the case is dismissed. Cases to which this rule is applicable shall include those in which the Defendant is not competent to stand trial, is confined in a penal institution in another state, has not been served, or cannot be found. No case shall be placed on the inactive list until any bail has been forfeited and judgment entered. The Clerk of Court’s office shall present an annual list containing the inactive files to the administrative judge and the County Prosecutor. The Prosecutor shall file a report with the administrative judge on the status of the inactive cases or shall dismiss those cases.
