For real, man. I live in the U.S.A.--more specifically, Gladstone, MO. I'm 15, and I want me and my 2 or 3 friends to be rulers of an oligarchic democracy to pass the time. Better than rotting away in a ghetto high school. I have declared myself and one other friend oligarchs already, and declared our independence as a free, real micronation. Can someone tell me how to legalize all of this (seriously)?
Your question is a little like this one: am I old enough to drive a car without my parent's permission?

Let me put the question a little more succinctly: are you of the legal age?

I'm not just asking if you are of the age that you can vote (age of majority). I'm asking you if you are of the age at which you can legally be a candidate for public office (age of candidacy).

You should explore these legal ideas before you think about creating a legal micronation.

Every country has a different standard for the age of candidacy and other types of legal ages, but it is pretty obvious that outside of some primitive tribes, you are usually not allowed to create your own tribe if you are 15 years old. Actually the word tribe is also valuable in this discussion. Wangari Maathai, the 2004 Nobel Peace Prize winner, used to use the word micronation in place of the word tribe.

According to a real micronational legal standard, the most rational of which is based on Cesidian law, at 14 you have the right to vote, and you would also be able to legally drink or purchase wine or beer in a glass, can, or small bottle. However, to do anything else -- like drink a 6-pack, drive or get married without parental permission, run for public office, or even start your own tribe -- you have to wait until the age of 21.

This, of course, doesn't completely exclude you could act as a social climber, and start laying the foundation for your tribe/micronation today, but you can't expect serious organisations like the Micronational Professional Registry (MPR) to register your concept, or even real nation of 12 people if you are still 15. Would you go to someone, even extremely bright, with a minor health issue which could possibly be helped or healed with vitamins, minerals, or herbs, if they were only 15? I don't think so. :)

Wait...wasn't there a teen who was voted into public office not too long ago? Mayor of some midwest town, possibly? Now I have to look it up to see if I am remembering what I think I am.

Edited to add: if Wikipedia is accurate, there have been at least 14 teenage mayors in the US since the 1980s, with the youngest elected at age 11 in Texas.

OP, if you don't like the where you live, maybe instead of creating a new country, you could work to be elected to make a change. Just a thought. Government could always use some new blood.

In this list of Youth Candidates...

youthrights.net/index.php?title=List_of_Youth_Candidates

...nobody is under 18.

An article about an aspiring teen politician I googled also revealed that the teen was 18.

The "Age of candidacy" and "Age of candidacy legislation in the United States" articles in the Wikipedia show no "Under 18" rule, and in most cases and most offices you need to be 21 or older.

An article about "Teenage Politics" in the Wikipedia turned out to be about an American pop punk band...

You cannot passively vote if you are not 18 in most countries or US states, although there are a few countries and US states that will permit someone 16 or 17 at least to vote, so how could you actively be a candidate or politician under that age?

There are, of course, some Euro politicians and youth advocates that are suggesting that people at age 16 should be allowed to vote, but nobody, including the British Youth Council (BYC), suggests that the age of candidacy should be lowered below 18: "BYC believes that at the age of 18 a person may hold elected office. A candidate's breadth of life experience is something that can be evaluated by the electorate... BYC strongly believes that the age of voting should be lowered to 16 and candidacy age should be lowered to 18..."

As far as I know, only Cesidian law allows people to vote at 14 or older, but the age of candidacy is the age of full adulthood, not junior adulthood, and that age is 21.

You can't create ANY kind of legal document, at all, being a minor. You are under the dictatorship rule of your parents, and you have to continue going to high school.

I got this far before I cracked up.

Boy from Happy Rock needs to spend some time in the actual ghetto. For perspective.

I am aware of several micronations, see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Micronations

It is possible, by the way. Never automatically doubt or assume anything, Mr. Z.

What legal problems, and how can I avoid those and make all this stuff legal?

Thx.
You might want to read the reference you quoted. Particularly:
"which are not acknowledged as such by any recognised sovereign state, or by any supranational organization."

None of them is a legal entity - and you can't create a legal micronation.

Your best bet is to pick a small Pacific island and buy up all the property. Then you can do whatever you want.:D:cool:
