Please cite the law that would allow the grandparents to have a chance at visitation in THIS situation.

ETA: Please disregard - for some stupid reason, I got it stuck in my head that the baby wasn't born yet when I posted this.

Except that in Illinois the grandparents can indeed petition for visitation rights.
They can petition, but they wouldn't win. They would be expected to assist their son (assuming that he is also a minor) with getting his won rights and they would be expected to visit on his time.

The extent of an established relationship between a child and a grandparent is a big focus in IL courts. Grandparents and newborns have no established relationship.

Not in dispute..but danny's initial statement that only Dad can get visitation rights was incorrect.

[/QUOTE][Well, my daughter was told by our family doctor that she was not going to be able to get pregnant because she apparently was not ovulating... so she did NOT choose him, it happened, and she WAS using condoms, as the boy has a history of getting around, and he did not withdraw properly, thus, a child was conceived....

So you knew that your 16 yr old daughter was having sex with an 18yr old guy? If you took her to the DR. that is what it sounds like to me. It took two people to make this baby, the guy and YOUR DAUGHTER! You sound like you have alot of animosity toward the guy and his family. Is this because he wants to have rights to his baby? I really hope you answer my previous questions on my previous post as well. And yes I know that the mother of the baby (your daughter) has all the rights right now in this situation untill he establishes paternity and custody/visitation (which sounds like he is trying to do) but not giving him any visitation is wrong in my opionion. Just because you have the right to do something does not make it right.

The whole thing is that until the father becomes dad in the eyes of the court, there are no "paternal" grandparents, because, well, there is no dad. In order for those grandparents to have any legal standings, they will have to help the father thru the court system (or dad can get himself thru the system without his parents' help.)

You are not alone...
Does someone want to fill the mom in on the fact that "withdrawl" is not a form of birth control and clue her in on what pre ejaculation is? Dang it I will have to use that excuse to blame my husband. "BUT baby you didnt withdraw correctly so its all your fault I'm pregnant!" I don't think he will by it.:D

I guess when you have an uneducated parent you then have an uneducated child too.

That's why I remind my two (11 and 9) if you have sex at some point you will get pregnant. It may not be right then it may not be for a while but at some point you will get pregnant . If your not ready for that and to take care of a baby then your not ready for sex.
