Back on topic, I have never understood how people who will find a way to afford any number of other services, such as someone to do their taxes, will absolutely go all cheapie at the idea of letting a lawyer guide them through the legal system. It seems to be a very common fallacy in our society that all lawyers are crooked, and that the law is an undesirable profession, or not a profession at all, and that Joe Citizen undereducated though he may be, should be able to get through the whole process of divorce, criminal charges, child support orders, etc, without having an attorney, or having somebody do it for free.

Judges despise people coming before them without representation because frankly, you are wasting their time. And they are not obligated in any way to teach you or explain the law to you, and you go up there a capella asking them to do that. If you were playing in a tennis tournament and you appeared on court and had not a clue how to serve, even to begin the game, how much would the officials appreciate that you've made the huge effort to be there and help you understand the basics so the game could be played? Oh, and by the way, your opponent is a tennis professional who makes a living doing this. You think you're going to win?

As Ohio says, even an attorney understands how difficult it is to self represent, and would probably hire their own attorney. Take a hint and do likewise.

Really? What is the term of the marriage? What are marital assets? What are separate assets? What is current caselaw in your district? Guess you need an attorney because you don't know how to get the information you desire. How do you get that information regarding assets? Income?
Too bad OP never answered these questions. It's entirely possible that he isn't entitled to much of anything, and that a lawyer wouldn't be of any help to him.

Only if the person doesn't know and understand the rules of the court. Only if the person is unprepared and just wants to use the courtroom as a platform to whine, cry and complain about how the other person has treated them badly.

With the proper mindset, lots of preparation and research, and having all your "ducks in a row", a person can successfully represent themselves Pro se for some things.

I would not recommend the OP represent himself for any court proceedings, he has a poor attitude!

OP petitioned the NY court for temporary spousal support during divorce proceedings and was denied because he didn't have a lawyer.

Is that a VALID reason for denying a motion? Would the wife have been denied also?

OP doesn't want to play the systems game because he knows it's rigged just like he said it is. However, OP will come to the realization that he must get in the game and play according to the established rules, hopefully before it's too late.

I doubt his application for pendente lite was denied due to not having an attorney. If Wifey is paying all of the household expenses and Hubby continues to reside in the marital home and is swigging beers in his bathrobe while watching soaps and animal planet, he is not going to be awarded pendente lite. He has no need for any funds as his basic needs are already being met. My ex was denied pendente lite for this reason and that was with an attorney.

What is the difference? No alimony pendente lite, but he gets lifetime alimony and continues to drink beer in his underwear?

How hard is it to simply have the court order that all personal income information be sent to the other spouse.
As part of the divorce process both parties must file a Statement of Net Worth with the court. Call your wife's attorney and ask for hers. You will be asked to provide yours. No court order is necessary.
