As was stated, Tom Cruise has the income to back up his claim and his reputation is worth millions.

Your reputation is worth about $30 and being a boxboy for Fed Ex does not pay well enough for you to afford to defend your worthless reputation.

Since the cost of this type of suit can outweigh any damages the person has, would it be more responsible to advise people to sue or to advise them to suck it up?

Most of the people who post here wanting to sue because someone called them gay are not public figures.

Most of the people who post here wanting to sue because someone called them gay live in states where sexual orientation is not protected.

Most of the people who post here wanting to sue because someone called them gay did not have it printed and published for the entire world to see.

When you are a public figure living in a state where sexual orientation is protected and someone publishes in a national publication that you are gay, c'mon back and maybe you'll get an answer you like better.

Until then, accept that you are not Tom Cruise and your situation is not the same as his.
