Please don't misunderstand. I am not saying that the principal's actions are appropriate.

I am saying that the way to fight it is not with the "discrimination" card, for the reasons already stated.

I understand.

I would have approached it as, go to principal's office, tell him you were there for a very serious reason, and say "Sir, you are in a position of leadership, and so am I. Every day in my classroom, I ask my students to practice their English by speaking English only. Since they are going to have to take a test in order to graduate that is in English, I feel that the more opportunities they have to speak properly, the better. Especially with someone who speaks English as well as me.

I do have a problem, though. When I sit in the teacher meetings, sometimes people give the directions in Spanish. Or really, I don't know what's going on, since I don't speak Spanish. I know that everyone in the room does speak English. Since we expect our students to comprehend and be capable in English, I would like to suggest that all the teachers and the school leadership set a positive example and speak only in English. That way everyone, especially me, will be able to understand EVERYTHING that's said at these meetings, and not be excluded. You wouldn't want me to miss the directions that are vital for my job, would you?"
