In what state does a minor child appear in court alone? Since the OP is the epitome of responsibility, surely he was in court as well with his child to hear the return court date...

so why exactly weren't YOU there? How many follow up calls/visits did you make to the court or the child's probation officer?

Will do, since your so called advise is worthless.

Definition of BEHAVIOR
1a : the manner of conducting oneself
b : anything that an organism does involving action and response to stimulation
c : the response of an individual, group, or species to its environment
2: the way in which someone behaves; also : an instance of such behavior
3: the way in which something functions or operates
The word is advice. And behaviour is a proper spelling. It is the proper ENGLISH spelling. Not American but English. Your stupidity is noted.

As for your legal issue, if he broke a window on a building that is considered burglary. The fact that you didn't take him to report back to court and a warrant was issued means that your son is exactly where he needs to be because neither you nor he is responsible enough to get him to court when required.

I would think that the judge will let him go into your custody (if you have guardianship--bring any papers to that effect) ... if he wishes to do anything further.
Not necessarily -- because dad has not shown himself to be all that responsible.
