What is the name of your state? John from Oregon,
My wife and I were married about a year ago. She has two children from her previous marriage. She is concerned that if something happens to her, then the children’s (ages 10, 8) biological father will gain custody. We have been a family unit for going on 5 years and the children’s father has visitation that is limited to birthdays, Fathers Day, and regular phone calls in the custody papers. It really works out to about once a month he comes down from out of state with his new wife to visit with the girls. He is a creep, and should probably be spending time for some of the stuff he has pulled in the past. That aside, is there anything that I can do to help protect the girls from him if something happens to my wife. They know me as dad, not him. I can't say for sure if he would give up custody outright, or if there are other avenues that I can try before I ask him. I really want to protect these girls from him if I can.
Thank you
John
