Yes, I guess that is true. I personally just like to see WHAT those conflicts are and how others tend to feel they should be dealt with. It's educational to me and somewhat of an eye opening experience. Different people's opinions are important, and you guys have great links on state laws. Hope I didn't offend anyone?!
If you Search a topic you can read threads on just about any Parenting Conflict topic. I'm pretty sure we've seen most of them over the years.

I'm not offended by your opinion~ just surprised at your 'confusion' that there would be someone experiencing an unreasonable parent on these forums.

Oh no, not confusion. I know their are men and women out there that do not and can not get along for the sake of their children. I just have never heard of homework infringing on "parenting time". I nearly laughed.

With my Ex aka Mr. Wonderful!! I find nothing amusing anymore!!! He also tells the girls (along with his Wifey telling them) that their wanting to attend a bday party or other social event with their friends that happen to fall on his weekend, that its not fair to HIM or HIS WIFEY that they can't spend time with them.

Like I said, when it comes to him nothing surprises me anymore!!

As kids get older, it will likely be that it will continue to get even more unfair. I have 14 y/o sd. She is here from Thurs. - Sunday. We just know that on either Fri or Sat night she will probably be at a friends house. And that's o.k. Friends are important to teens. It doesn't happen every weekend that she is here, but more often than not.

Her teacher says her "oral grade" is great. She has trouble with the writing of the language.
I struggle with accents in Spanish. I freakin’ hate ‘em. I’m honestly not literate enough in Spanish to have internalized or be “used to” where accents go.

I have relatives that will fuss at me when I write. I began placing a bunch of accents at the bottom of any letters I write with the gentle suggestion that they “stick it” wherever it pleases them.

Still, there are actually rules for this that people learning Spanish are rarely taught. Does she know the rules or is she trying to memorize?

RATS! I've been typing it out when duh- I could have Googled it. Found it done better than my shot at it http://coe.sdsu.edu/people/jmora/Accents.htm

I wanna nap now

You are in California, right? It seems that the largest minority are Hispanics. Is there ANYONE in the neighborhood that could help her with Spanish, without it costing an arm and a leg? Exchange tutoring in Spanish for ?????
A great suggestion!
Better speaking = better pronunciation = better phonics = better spelling

I am also in CA. I will tell you why I " think " the teacher is telling you your daughter doesn't need any more than the after school program. ( The law could have changed since I fought this war. ) When I first started having troubles with my dyslexic son, I was told by everyone in the district, that he was fine and nothing additional needed to be done.

Once I started doing some research, my best friend was a Pediatric Neuro-Psychologist and she helped a lot. I found out that they tell everyone that. In CA, if a teacher, counselor etc. tells you your child needs something beyond the normal school curriculum. The district is then obligated to pay for it. School employees are VERY careful to not even make suggestion.

I agree with the posters who suggest finding a student tutor. A high school or college student could be very helpful and affordable. If you have a JC in your area, call and see if there is a board where you could look for tutors or even put up your own flyer. We had our son meet with his tutor in a study room at the library. They are glass and in a public place. I was also in the coffee shop across the street. Anyway, just think about a public place that is not too busy or loud. In this day and age, you don't really want a stranger in your home nor do you want to send a 7th grader to a stranger's home.

Even if you can afford it, stay away from Sylvan. PM me if you would like specifics.

Bloopy, I am fluent in Spanish and 25 years ago I would have put all of the accent marks in the right place, every time. Today, I don't think I could do it right to save my own life.

As a teacher I am offended by this. I taught school in the very district my kids are enrolled and was NEVER told to do this. All of my children's teachers have been helpful with the exception of this Spanish teacher. I will say he was helpful today though.

We (as a teacher) are there to help the child no matter the cost. If the child needs help we can't give them, we are to refer them to somewhere or someone who can. Period. Its is our obligation.
