I had a case in which it was. It was ordered due to the close proximity of the parents, the age of the child (not in school yet) and the working shifts of the child. The NCp provided child care daily for the CP. And it was court ordered that the NCP would provide child care for the CP as long as the NCP wanted to.
I have seen cases like that as well, but always in the context of the child being with one parent while the other parent was working. The bad part about those kinds of orders is when the child starts school, often they suddenly see much, much less of a parent that they were used to seeing on a daily basis. Even when the schedule gets adjusted the kids are dealing with the transition into school AND a big change in their personal lives at the same time. It can be rough on kids.
My ex did see our child on a daily basis. He would come by the house every day after work and play outside with her and her friends, help her with homework, be there if I needed to run some errands etc. It was great. It probably wouldn't have worked if I had remarried or lived with someone, but I chose not to go that route.
The funny part about that is that dad worked 5 minutes from my house, and had a huge commute to his own...and it was a heavily traffic laden commute.
He could spend two hours at my house, and then get home only 1/2 an hour later than he would have gotten home, if he went straight home.
