Oh thanks for your vote of confidence Tinker. At least spell the word correctly next time if you intend to make yourself look superior.
Java - So if all I'm doing is heading home after 10, you don't think tat I would be ticketed? The kids who do things illegally like drink and smoke after curfew surely won't be stopping. I live in the same world as they do, and I know them fairly well. If they're smoking, then this would be one of the least of their worries. It's only restricting the kids who follow the rules, which defeats some of the purpose doesn't it? The kids who won't be able to go out aren't the ones doing illegal things to begin with.
Seems to me that if you are going to correct other people for their spelling, then you should spell YOUR words correctly.
And, while you're at it, please get a refresher course on proper punctuation.

The acceptable "exceptions" are already spelled out in the law. Beyond that, you are breaking the law. We do NOT help anyone break the law.

It wouldn't, but I could possibly find some advice from some of you on ways to get around it. The people on this forum's expansive knowledge of the law has got to know a coupe loopholes around them as well.
That last sentences doesn't make sense. Additionally, it has a spelling error.

Teenrights? lol;2783440]You guys just assume that all the kids are going to follow this? I don't know one of them who intends to... This is not going to make the roads any safer, this is just another stupid ploy for money and to restrict younger people.
gee, then I suspect you will have a bunch of friends that will be restricted from getting a drivers license until they are 18. Of course, they have to be caught first. While all of them probably won't, some will.

All of you have forgotten what it's like to be young and almost have some real freedoms, but 23 days before it, it's taken away.
You are so concerned about growing up, you fail to realize just what other restrictions and liabilities you will have in a few short years. Your mind is focused on this one little point and have absolutely no understanding of why it was enacted. Once you have a few friends die in accidents cause by some kid that thought he knew how to drive like a pro race car driver, you may start to understand the intent of the law.

Egrarious? I didn't know that word, so I looked it up. It doesn't exist. Egregious, however, does. Tinker's sycophantic behavior is somewhat irritating, because she's not contributing to the argument.

Listen sweetie - the law is there to help protect teenagers from themselves. I remember being one - including totally the car.

A member on this board visits her daughter in a nursing home caused by a teenage driver. Think she would be wishing that the age to get a driver's license would have been 18.

When you are older and wiser, you will understand WHY the government put these restrictions in place. It's not like you can't drive. It's that you can drive any ol' time you please.

just so everybody knows what the law actually restricts:

2010 PA 268 was signed into law on December 14, 2010, and will take effect on March 30, 2011. The law will amend the Michigan Vehicle Code in the following ways:

Prohibit a driver with a Level 2 graduated driver's license (GDL) from operating a motor vehicle carrying more than one passenger who is under 21 years of age, unless:
a. passengers are members of the driver's immediate family, or
b. travel is to or from school or a school-sanctioned event.

In addition, the nighttime restriction has been extended to 10:00 p.m. from the original midnight starting time. The new nighttime restriction is from 10:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m unless driving to or from employment.
Both of these restrictions remain for the duration of the Level 2 graduated driver's license. The sanctions for violating these new provisions are:
A civil infraction is entered and 2 points are added to the driving record.
Notice of the civil infraction shall be sent to a designated parent or guardian.
GDL Level 2 period is extended for 12 months.
A driver reexamination will be scheduled with possible license suspension and/or additional restrictions imposed.

Well it seems I've irritated your little coalition of forum regulars. I misspelled couple as "coupe". Egrarious:Egregious - Coupe:Couple? It's not like I just missed a key or anything.
Most of the kids that I know that break laws regularly aren't friends of mine.
I've been waiting for a really long time to be 16 so that I could enjoy the privilege of going to places whenever I want, not including my parents curfews. My hopes were dashed by this law. Excuse me for seeing what other people thought.

Zigner, then I hope you also root for the minimum age of military service to go up to 21. How could an 18 year old be able to vote for our country's president if they wouldn't be able to drive.

I'm gonna be down to my last driver coming up. The rest are adults now. In fact, there was one who just couldn't cut the mustard on his grades, therefore, he got a license at 18 when he could sign for it without needing a parent's permission (couldn't sweet talk either mom or dad on that one.)

I still don't see where the law is particularly restrictive.

Your too young to even know you are too young.

A friend of mine was 17 when he and his 8 month pregnant girlfriend were coming home from a baby shower, when the inexperienced driver- no alcohol, no drugs, no emotions, no darkness, driving too fast for conditions, flipped, crashed and killed his girlfriend and baby boy.

He was charged with murder, which was dropped to reckless endangerment, spent thousands in court costs, and has to now live with the fact that he killed his child and the young lady he loved.

Maybe you should calm yourself down there kid, you have a long way to go... hopefully. Sounds to me like you cant wait to kill yourself and others.

In Michigan, a law recently passed giving 16 year olds a curfew limitation of 10 p.m [on the road], and also restricted the amount of passengers they can have in their car with them to one non-family member. Why is it fair for Michigan to pass this law? Teenagers have no representation, and it affects nobody but them. They have a right to assemble too don't they? Isn't a car an extension of their property as well, giving them the right to be in it whenever they want? Sorry for all of the questions, but I'm turning 16 soon and this law is completely unfair, old people can pass laws on me because they're past the point of it affecting them?
Hi,

You are either a licensed driver or not...the guberment is getting too involved in our life's. You either: a) know how to drive or b) you don't

These restrictions serve no lawful purpose. The guberment is not your mommy ... no passengers in cars, no driving after 10 PM .. all big brother laws. I do not support them. The courts have upheld them so you are stuck with them for now...contact your legislature & complain... thats about all you can do.
