What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? PA

I have recently been terminated because I do not have a GED, although I have worked for this company for nine years without one. My employer even helped me try and get my GED. What should I do I am very hurt that now this is a problem to them.

I received yearly raises and my evaluations were very good.

Despite raises or excellent performance reviews, they are not prohibited from firing you for this reason.

File for unemployment.

In your other thread you say you've been fired because of a letter your wife sent your boss. So, which is it?

What letter?

And now I'm curious. Does PA recognize same sex unions/marriage?

User name suggest a female poster, but the impressions in post title suggests male poster.....

Who is this? Are both spouses using the same ID? (Please don't. Each of you create your own, hmm?)

Sorry for the misunderstanding. This is my question about the GED, and my brother in law, Kevin posted a question about his wife and the letter using my log in. He did not wish to register to another website. Hope we did not cause too much confusion. We are two different people with two seperate issues and questions. Thanks for helping

There's more here than meets the eye.

So, were you told to get a GED and did not do so in the span of time allowed? If not, what do you think is the reason they all of a sudden out of the blue decided to fire you for not having a GED?

I'm going for something specific here. This is not just random.

I have worked for this daycare center for nice years. I am a 58 year old woman. My employers always knew that I did not have a GED, and there were no issues with that through the last nine years. Yes, I tried twice to pass to get my GED but failed by 2 points. Unfortunately the daycare business is not in a great financial position because so many people are without work and in no need of daycare. So the cuts have come down and I believe they used the GED as an excuse to cut back on payroll.

Did they specifically say that you were being let go because you do not have a GED? What qualifications do the people who were retained have?

Everyone is different. Some have more hours/education and are teachers. Some such as myself have been an assistant for the past nine years. I have always received raises each anniversary and nothing was ever brought up. My boss helped me study for my GED two years ago, but I figured at my age what is the use of trying again for the third time.

And Yes, that was the reason.

My suggestion to you is to get your GED, brush up your resume, and file for UI benefits.

Your letting go was perfectly legal.
