"Get it fixed"??? There is no such thing. Just how did you plan on getting it fixed? This is not a correctable offense. It doesn't matter when it expired, if it's beyond 60 days then the penalties are all the same. The actual date of expiration is not relevant here.- HighwayMan

The only thing that counts here is the posted speed limit signs. Any device you were using is irrelevant. Your primary responsibility was to make sure the owner was notified, either by leaving a note or by waiting. Going shopping was not a good thing to do, no matter how long. You should also report the accident to your insurance company.- HighwayMan
