I wasn't comparing the crime, I was asking you why you think you should be able to ignore your punishment until it is convenient for you. I doubt that you would look at any other criminal and say that you understand them fleeing from justice because the timing is bad or it might upset their life.

You committed a crime and what you received was a light punishment. Instead of doing the right thing then you decided to not be bothered with it.

When is it a good time to go to jail? What crimes should we allow criminals to dictate their own punishment? Why are you so special that the rules should not apply to you?

You keep saying that you would IF...if only it was easy, if only it was convenient, if only they would punish you in a way that doesn't disrupt your life. Do you really understand what you are asking of society?
The fact that they don't just arrest me and send me back tells me the state doesn't care, and it's just "paperwork" to them. They are giving me the option to wait until it's convenient for me so I am taking it.

Your logic is very skewed. If it wasn't a big deal it wouldn't be a crime.

There is no way to justify your actions any more than one can justify the actions of any criminal who believes they are too important for laws. It's a vulgar stain on society and a disgrace to every person who actually works to live within the laws of society.

I hate to disagree with you Obie1. It was also idiotic and baseless...
You are correct, I should not have used the word 'just' in there.

Have you noticed that the more polite I am with these fools the more they try to pick fights? It really isn't my fault

What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? Florida

So 10 years ago I broke into a store that was closed and took money. I was charged with 2 felonies, grand theft and burglary of a structure. I went into a deferral program where I was supposed to do 80 hours of community service and pay a $600 fine.

Well, I decided to leave the state instead and since I didn't comply with the deferral program they put a warrant out for my arrest. I called the PD in Alachua county (where the offence was committed) and they said they couldn't do anything for me and all I could do was to turn myself in.

Well, I have a family, a job, and a nice life - I am certainly not going to fly back to Florida so they can arrest me and put me in jail.

Is there any way I can get this cleared up or will I just have to avoid Florida forever?

Thanks!
I don't understand why you are making such a big deal out of this. Call the Sherrif's Department and find out what the bail on the warrant is set at. Turn yourself in, post bail and GO TO YOUR COURT DATE they will give you!

You will need a good attorney and from what it sounds like you can afford one. You will not end up paying 10K for this kind of a case, IMO. Your attorney will discuss your situation and the matter with the PA and if you are lucky you will get a favorable disposition offer that you can live with and that won't put you behind bars.

IMO it is very unlikely that you would be thrown in jail at this point. Prossecutors and Judges alike do need to look at the good of the entire community including the economic repercussions of throwing you in jail vs having you pay considerable fines and paying your debt to society by another means other than jail.
