He want's attention and he wants the taxpayers to pay because he feels entitled, He feels entitled because it wasn't fair, even though he is capable of working, it really looks like he was only looking for a little vacation and sympathy.
WOW, another brilliant post. You know, you're really insightful. You've got me all figured out.
You've made me realize that I'm just some lazy loser who can't accept the fact that I'm mentally ill and suicidal. I really don't know why I'm struggling to accept that doctors don't make mistakes, EVER. Why can't I accept that psychiatry never ever has any gray areas and that it's just not possible that a doctor would unfairly give too much weight to what my girlfriend was telling them. Psychiatry has a sound reputation and history that includes highly effective treatments such as shock therapy, prefrontal lobotomy, and today's SSRI's, which many scientist are finding to cause permanent changes in the human brain. But they temporarily make people "feel" better by masking problems and that's all that matters. And all the complaints filed at various civil rights organizations over the years against psychiatric hospital units complaining of coersion and forced treatment of mind-altering drugs etc etc are all baseless.
Thank you for making me realize that I should accept everything forced on me, and that doctors dont make mistakes, and that everything that happened that day was fair and just and objective.

You may lose your unemployment for not actively seeking employment or turning down jobs which would disqualify you for medicaid coverage. Essentially you are intent on committing medicaid fraud and attempting to manipulate us into aiding and abetting you, which we will not do. You are not so depressed at this point that you cannot work, you are not employed because you refuse to be responsible for your debts. Get a job!
ahh no, unemployment ran out the week of my hospitalization and I didnt refuse any offers when collecting because i didn't get any. I've gone to interviews and was offered two positions, both of which required a car which i dont have and cant afford.
currently im living on savings and i sure as hell wont take a job i dont like or dont want because of some ridiculous medical bill.

I went in person about 3 weeks ago and I didn't hear anything.
They are required to respond within a reasonable amount of time. If it's been a month since you filed your complaint with them and they haven't responded, I suggest moving on to the OMH (Office of Mental Health, the entity that regulates psychiatric units). See phone # I listed in last post. Tell them the date you filed the complaint with the hospital, the last brush off you got, etc. Just be aware, this complaint is 99.99% unlikely to result in your bill being written off.

I'm probably looking at bankruptcy if i can't get out of this mess so it's crucial that my complaint is as effective as possible.
It's unfortunate you don't qualify for Mcaid, but that doesn't mean you have to go the bankruptcy route. Hospitals have discount programs too. My arm will hurt if I go into all the detail, so that's why I suggested you talk to the hospital's financial counselor. There are several other options.

I'm hoping that I'll get a chance to sit down with the doctors and social workers and voice my complaints. How should I present my case? I want to be very forceful but I can't back up any legal threats. I want them to know how I've been harmed and that I'm researching civil rights and malpractive violations.

You have experience in this area, what would you suggest?
Talking directly to the clinical staff is ill advised. Follow the hospital's patient complaint program. Hospitals receive several complaints daily. They have a whole program set up just for that. Talking to the drs. will get you nowhere. They are not empowered to write off bills which seems to be your goal.

I'm sorry this happened to you, but based on what you've posted here, you simply do not have a malpractice or civil rights suit. Their actions were legal.

I've provided info on how to file complaints about your care, but please don't mistake this for me suggesting that the complaint will affect your bill. It could, but it's really a long shot. Very long. If you let this bill go to collections, even if you later obtain a reduction or write off, your credit will still be affected because you let it go unpaid. Your best bet is to get in touch with the financial counselor and get payment terms settled. If you were to later get them to reduce your bill, they could refund you. Don't let your credit be damaged because of this. Employers nowadays often run credit reports on job candidates and it will damage your ability to get hired if there's a psych hospital on your credit report.
